Nikala Peccati {District 4}

Nikala is average sized for a girl her age, at 5'5. She is skinny, but not unhealthily so, as she always has at least one meal a day. Her skin is unblemished and has a tan complexion to it. Nikala has large blue-green eyes that look out of place on her narrow face.

Nikala hates her hair, it's not short, just unruly. It is curly and brown with lighter streaks from the sun. She hates dresses and skirts and wears plain ratty jeans and a T-shirts. She wears a bracelet her father gave to her when she was seven that she never takes off. The bracelet is a simple golden one, but could be worth enough to feed her family for three months.

Nikala is at first glance a normal teen in District 4, but delving deeper she has many opinions that could get her in a lot of trouble. While everyone else in her district was reveling in their good fortune at being one of the richer districts, Nikala is preoccupied with thoughts of the less fortunate ones. She is somewhat of an outsider, mostly by choice. Still sometimes when she is deep in thought and she is interrupted she will snap at them. Not many people enjoy being told to stuff it, so they steer clear, especially when she has a distant look in her eyes.

Despite her charitable thoughts, she is not a sweet little do-gooder, quite the opposite in fact. She is a tomboy, and if anyone knew her private thoughts, an enemy of the Capitol. She tends to tell things like they are, which gets her into trouble often. As she grew older her red-hot temper also got her into trouble. She is very smart though and her intelligence allows her to see the evil in her world.

Nikala grew up being told how great the Capitol was, even though everything her parents told her was clearly false. As she watched the Hunger Games growing up, she was scared and saddened by the killings. Soon it seemed that the fear and misery turned into hatred for the Capitol. The hatred hardened her, making her incredibly hard to talk to without her fixing her eyes on you in a somehow accusing way, blaming everyone for the strife of the tributes and knowing someday she might have to be in their place.

Nikala Peccati is the only daughter of Arnita Peccati and Art Peccati. Her parents were going to have another child, but decided against it. It would just mean another mouth to feed. Nikala's parents are terrified of the Capitol and she is solidly reprimanded for anything "out of line" she says. Once when she was nine she asked her father why did the Capitol get most of the fish he caught instead of sharing with all the districts. Her father had gone white and told her to never say such things, because they were dangerous.

Nikala always hated watching the Hunger Games as long as she could remember. The screams of the tributes seemed to stay with her like a horrible nightmare. Neither of her parents had ever been to the Hunger Games so they had no problem with it. They seemed blind to the fact that the tributes were humans and could very well be their own beloved daughter someday. They even placed bets on who would die first not thinking about what the tribute's who had died parents, how heartbroken they must be.

Her parents wanted her to train for the future Hunger Games, but Nikala refused, much to the anger of her parents. When Nikala was twelve she overheard her parents whispering in their bedroom. "How will we get all that food and money if she won't even train!" Her mother's voice was annoyed her low tone was charged with anger. Nikala had walked away then, in tears. Her parents could never be the parents she wanted them to be, since she seemed to have developed a conscience where they just mindlessly obeyed.
