Valera Voran, District 4

Valera has a smaller build than the average kid from district 4, and has a height of 5'8. He has blonde hair that is bottom-of-neck length and has a slight curl to it. It's got small brown patches, though. His skin is fairly tan, but not a steady almost brown color.

He wears oversized khaki-colored shorts and a sleeveless white shirt. He is virtually always barefoot unless he goes into town, oblivious to the fear of getting a hook through his toe. He isn't very hairy like many 15-year-olds in the district. He has a few scars on his legs from things he has encountered in the waters of 4, from broken glass to toothed fish.

His eyes are a green blue color matching the area that he lives in, and has a white circular birthmark in his eye that slightly obstructs the iris, although that doesn't provide any vision impairment. He has a massive diagonal scar on his chest from a spear fishing accident.

Valera is very crafty, creative, and has eagle eyesight. Unfortunately, He attempts to only see the good in people, which, of course, resorts to dangerous situations with people such as peacekeepers.

His craftiness is such that he uses it to get him out of many situations, like stuck in a crowd or getting fish out of the water faster. He can invent a variety of tools and always carries a few things on hand, and always something that can administer an electric charge.

He's always had one of the weirdest instincts, much like that of a herbivore- hide. When he was left alone, he would always hide in wherever he could until someone returned to the room. Then he'd try to spook them. He's also had a problem with sleeping. At night, there was always anxiety that unfortunately kept him awake constantly, which made it near impossible to sleep.

He is very calm underwater. If he's lucky after a day of swimming in the ocean of District 4, he'll have a good sleep. If he'd lucky. Underwater, he feels at home with all his "Pals in the oceans and the seas", to quote Adam Young in one of his songs. The other fish and seahorses in the ocean are also sleepless, which gave him a sense of comfort. Of course, if he was caught while swimming on a fishing excursion, he would be punished, but his slyness keeps him out of it.

Valera has had an easy yet tough past. The first memorable event in his life was on a small fishing trip with his dad and two other men. Valera's father was a medic, and was needed in case of fishing accidents. This one just happens to be the first one he could remember. One of the men had thrown a spear into the water. Unfortunately, it missed the fish he had been aiming for and sunk deep. All had been calm, until a shark swam up to the surface and leaped out of the water, biting off the man's shoulder. They had been able to quickly row back to shore and get him on the kitchen table and fixed up just before he died of blood loss. Valera had been terrified, looking over his father's surgically precise hands fixing up the shoulder of this man. The shark had unfortunately been able to bite off more than just the shoulder, and ruptured one of the lungs. Blood was flying across the entire room. And Valera was horrorstruck, but couldn't keep his eyes away. That was what inspired him to become a healer rather than a fisherman.

The man died a week later unexpectedly from the lung rupture when the spot that was fixed broke open.

After that, Valera and his father opened a business for the fishing accidents. It was low-pay, but it worked. After the opening of the small medical center, accidents just kept occurring, from a hook completely through a finger to a spear through an entire chest.

As Valera got older, his sleeplessness got worse and worse, and began to realize his therapy. He went swimming almost daily and was always taken back to the hospital in case of emergency. He lived out a pretty humble, uneventful life, actually, until he decided to make it more interesting...
