Name: Chan-song Melodi Pyper, but she goes by Melodi.
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District Six
Appearance:
(Face Claim is Seung Yeon Han)
Chan-song's feet are relatively small. They're unscarred and very clean because she doesn't spend much time outside and never does any manual labor. She doesn't do much as far as exercise because she thinks it's a waste of time, so her feet look pale but clean.
Her legs are not skinny like bones, but not fat. She doesn't need to shave her legs because she's Asian, and Asians normally don't have leg hair. They're unblemished because, again, she doesn't exercise much or get around.
Her chest is perfectly formed. She isn't anorexic, but she's not obese. She's a decent balance between the two, though she sometimes leans towards the skinny side during her highly creative stages. She doesn't have much muscle because she doesn't exercise, but she's well-fed and cared for. She doesn't realize how much she has, how much a lot of people care for her. She tends to push people away because she has more interesting things to do.
Her arms are pretty well-muscled because of intensive piano and instrument playing. She loves piano the best, so she has monster hands with really long fingers from years of playing. Her skin tone is pale peach. She's of Korean descent.
She has a long neck. Sometimes, it collects dirt beneath her chin, because in her creative stages she goes through days without showering and eating. The area beneath her chin is permanently darkened from grime, sweat, and other gross things. Her head is heart-shaped, giving her a nice, cutesy look.
Her eyes are almond-shaped, drawn into tight corners at both sides. The coloration is nearly jet-black. One almost can't tell the difference between her iris and pupil. But on careful observation, the iris is slighly ligher. It's a deep, deep, deep brown. She lets her eyebrows get bushy, but her worrisome mother usually trims them for her. So they alternate from being rainforest density to sparse tundra. Her nose is a bit large, with a rounded tip. Her lips aren't thin, but they aren't overtly plump. They're rose-colored, and tend to get chapped. When they chap, she bites her lip and draws blood. Her mother hates this, but she does it subconsciously. Her teeth are perfectly in a row. They might be the only clean thing about her appearance. She keeps them pearly white and brushes them constantly throughout the day. Her ears are small and dainty. Depending on her mood, she'll cover or uncover her ears. If she's feeling more musical, her ears will be completely visible. She has a distant-look about her, as if she really isn't tied to this earth. She fazes out often and completely ignores everything around her. Other times, she obsesses over things and her eyes get really wide. Her face carries the looks of a genius and a dreamer.
Her hair is well-groomed and glossy. She keeps it clean so that when she looks in a mirror, she isn't assaulted by a nasty image. (The dirt underneath her chin is easily overlooked.) She dyes her hair different natural colors about every two months. She has an obsession with color and music because of her synesthesia. Her favorite colors to dye her jet-black hair are reds and browns. She only tried blonde once and decided to never do it again. Blonde, she says, has too many high-pitched notes (You'll understand more about synesthesia when you read the personality and why she sees colors as music notes).
Most days, Chan-song wears a t-shirt and black slacks. The t-shirt is usually black, white, or pastel colors. Most times, she doesn't wear a plain shirt. Her shirts usually have simple patterns, with nothing very flashy or wild. She doesn't like bright colors at all and never wears them. Sometimes, her mother convinces her to slip into a dark blue or green dress, but that's only sometimes. She never wears flip-flops or high heels. During the winter, she wears leather boots. During the spring and summer, she alternates between sandals and sneakers. Her hair is usually tied into a bun to keep from distracting her by falling into her face.
Overall, she's a pretty girl, but she doesn't look like it because she doesn't care much for her appearance apart from her hair and teeth.
Personality:
When someone first meets Chan-song, they can immediately tell that something is off. She isn't unkind, but she is strange. She will either totally dismiss you and appear distracted, or she'll obsess over you. It depends on your apperance. If you're dressed in colors she doesn't like, she'll tend to ignore or be irritated by you. But if she thinks you look nice, she'll want to stare at you for a long time. Her first impressions often aren't good. Her beautiful looks does nothing to alleviate her strangeness.
Most of the friends she makes are either strange like her or understanding of her condition. When she makes friends, she still goes through her obssession/distraction phase every time they meet. If you can't captivate her interest immediately, you've already lost her. She knows you and will talk to you, but she'll be extremely disinterested. She does try to keep friends, but her creative genius often distances herself, even if she doesn't know it.
Chan-song is this way because she has a condition known as sound-color synesthesia. When she hears sounds, she associates a color with them. Louder notes have brighter colors, and lower sounds have darker colors. She is very high-functioning, and besides social skills, her condition doesn't affect her that much. She has high creative aptitude. She writes complex songs by combining colors she likes. Other times, she takes a object, like a flower, and writes a song detailing the color/shadowing/depth of the object. She obssesses over these songs. She locks herself in her room with a piano, pen, and sheets of paper and writes and plays non-stop. She won't even eat or drink during these creative spikes. It damages her health, but she really doesn't notice or care.
She doesn't have much aspiration for doing anything better in her life. Ever since she was little, she has lived in a mental institution. Her parents live and work there, studying the patients like herself. She can't imagine life outside the safety of her District, and only leaves the institution grounds when she has permission and she's accompanied by a nurse/doctor. While she is creatively intelligent, she's dumb about what life is like on the outside.
She is a harmless person. She never hurts anyone. But you can't say she'd never hurt a fly. Flies, she says, make the most annoying colors possible. So she tries to kill them. (She wrote a song called "Fly Hunting" based on the sounds of fly buzzing and flyswatter connecting with various household objects). But she never hurts people. She can't understand or comprehend meanness, so she gets bewildered when people yell or get angry. She tries to leave these situations as soon as possible because they stress her out and also create tons of colors flashing across her vision.
She gets annoyed really easily and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She doesn't understand meanness, so she doesn't understand that the things she says could be mean. Most of the things she gets annoyed with have to do with the colors you're wearing or the sounds you're making. She states what she feels, without sugar-coating anything. It might get her into trouble one day.
Chan-song is an extremely gifted girl without room to spread her wings. She isn't charming, but she does make some friends. She can either dismiss her friends or obsess over them depending on her mood and what sounds and colors her friend is making. She is extremely innocent and narrow-minded. She also speaks her mind and gets annoyed often.
History:
Chan-song's parents are both very high-and-mighty. They're both of Korean descent, and they're very proud of their "purebred" lineage. They don't know what country they're from, but they know they have "pure" blood. They're both psychologists who work at the top mental institution in District 6. They met there and married, not so much for love as for making a good living and keeping a "pure" lineage. They still love their daughter, but they don't necessarily love each other. They like each other, but it's not the same.
Chan-song grew up in her parent's office. They rarely leave the institution, so they set up a crib right next to a desk filled with papers. They both doted on her only to make her a genius child. They really didn't want to spare any of their time, but they wanted a smart kid, so they did a lot of good things for her.
She never made many friends as a toddler or young child. She was always different. At school, people alienated her or bullied her. She often got into nervous meltdowns and her parents decided something must be wrong with her. They had noted her musical talent, but didn't think it could be related to the issue. Thus, they forced her into more social situations. She really hated them, but didn't blame her parents. Her conditions just got worse and worse.
Finally, Chan-song told a friend that she sees colors with sounds. Surprised, her friend promised to keep it a secret. But then, kids are never good at keeping secrets. She told another friend who promised not to tell. But then that friend spilled the beans to a few more people and so on and so forth. The story spread up until one kid told a teacher who in turn told her parents.
Shocked, they took Chan-song to a piano and told her to "play a daffodil". To their utter amazement, she closed her eyes, and let her fingers unfold over the grand piano. The song seemed to etch itself out of thin air. Her parents didn't appreciate the beauty of the song and instead became very bitter. They didn't have any other children because they were afraid they would turn out "weird" like her. They were too prideful of their pure lineage and high intelligence.
Chan-song was oblivious to all of this. Even when they took her out of the public school and began educating her at the mental institution, she didn't guess anything was wrong. She never saw any of her friends again. It confused her, but she didn't want to question her parents. Instead, she transformed seamlessly from a school girl to a patient. She studied at home instead of school and had whole days to play music. Nothing seemed to bad.
That's how her life continued up to the present time. She watches the Hunger Games only liberally. She hates some of the colors and sounds she hears. She doesn't really understand that they are real people dying. All she cares for is her music. Music is life for her.

I tried to make this bio longer to make up for the fail bio of my first character. Synesthetic characters are the best to rp.
