Appearance:
Helena has creamy, smooth skin. Sometimes it looks almost like her skin is translucent, because it is so pale. Because of this, though, Helena sunburns easily, which is one of the main reasons she is glad she's in District 6, where she doesn't have to spend a lot of her time outside, saving her skin from many burnsPersonality:
She has long, dark brown hair; the chocolate strands fall down to the small of her back, but almost always has her hair up in a bun, so the length is not easily able to be seen. Her eyes are gray-blue, and she wears glasses over them, thanks to her near-sightedness.
She has a rather slender physique, with long and flowing limbs. However, she only has one hand; see the history for explanation. Sometimes people don't know she has a missing hand at first because of how well Helena hides it and how natural she moves without it.
Helena is a rather reserved person; she spends a lot more time with a book than she does with people, which is partly thanks to her district, where it is not required to be with others. Helena will probably become one of the scientists who locks themselves in their labs for days on end.History:
Thanks to her lack of contact with people, it's sometimes hard for Helena to express her emotions, and even when she does come in contact with someone, she's be too shy, too reserved to tell them about what she's thinking, what she's feeling.
Helena's shyness has remained, but also evolved into independence; sometimes she forgets where she needs to stop being independent, and then refuses help when she probably needs it more than she thinks. This is probably considered Helena's tragic flaw.
One of her better characteristics is she could solve any problem put into her path. Helena herself says that her mind works different from everyone else's.
Ever since she was a toddler, Helena had been in a science lab, seeing as both of her parents were in a scientific from the start, and often had to take her along to work, since her mother did not get a very long maternity leave. Her mother studied genetics and biology while her father studied chemistry and physics.Codeword: odair
One day when Helena was at her father's lab a horrible accident happened. No one knows what caused the accident, but because of it her father died and she lost her hand. They assume, though, that it was some sort of explosion.
Helena is studying the same subjects as her mother, genetics and biology, leaning more towards the genetics side. She chose this because she knew that people in genetics rarely ever got recognized, even if they made mutations in the games. Besides, she also knew if she got into the spotlight all the talk would be about her hand. Helena didn't want, let alone couldn't afford a prosthetic hand.
Helena hopes that she will be able to genetically engineer the muttations for the Hunger Games. That is pretty much her dream make mutations better than the rest, smarter, quicker, but with more mercy than others.Helena, in addition to studying has to work at a lab to support her family. She doesn't have a lot of friends because of her studying, working, and the accident.
