Nydia Kentson District 6

Nydia has average-sized height: She isn’t super tall, but she isn’t short, either. She’s really skinny, and quick on her feet. She has long red hair that is pretty long: with perfectly straight strands tumbling down past her shoulders. She has wispy bangs in front of her forehead, but not going into her eyes. She’s fair skinned, but with plenty of freckles underneath her eyes and up her nose, making some sort of freckle bridge looking thing underneath her eyes. She has warm, hazel eyes, but high eyebrows and a sly, thin-lipped pink smile that gives her an overall sneaky look. She has a thin nose and high cheekbones.
Nydia’s family isn’t completely poor, so she has some decent clothes. But they aren’t the prettiest clothes, not like the ones merchants wear. On typical days, Nydia dresses in plain jeans (shorts in the summertime) and the first t-shirt she spots in her closet, preferably her aqua blue v-neck short sleeved shirt. She always wears her favorite (and only) pair of white sneakers, that have good grips on the bottom for running. On reaping days, she wears a flowing white dress that goes down a little bit past her knees, made of beautiful fabric that was a special hand-me-down from her older sister, which she wore when she was eligible for the reapings (but now she’s too old, so the dress got handed down to Nydia). Everyday Nydia’s straight red hair is left perfect and long. Nydia washes almost everyday, so mostly her hair is free of dirt. On reaping days, her mother makes her a special bun, tied together with a big hairclip that has a white artificial rose on it.

Nydia is fairly kind to most people, except for the people who really tick her off. But usually the only people who make Nydia tick are Capitol citizens, so Nydia is mostly kind to everyone in her district. Nydia is clearly responsible and independent. She has to be responsible, because she is always caring for her two younger siblings. She’s independent because she is extremely determined, and doesn’t really like being pushed around by people. Naturally, Nydia is sly and very clever, always finding the best solution to her problems.
Nydia has many flaws. She isn’t trusting of people, except for her family members. In order to gain Nydia’s trust, you really have to get to know her. And even then, she might still have her doubts about you. The only people in Panem she trusts completely is her family. After that, the line is drawn. Besides that, Nydia is very arrogant. She believes in what she can do, and she always underestimates her opponents, which is a fatal flaw. She often thinks that she’s better than them, and that isn’t a good mindset. Nydia often makes cutting remarks, and doesn’t really show any emotions to anyone besides her family. Also, if put in the Hunger Games, Nydia is most likely the kind of girl who would make alliances, but once the pool of tributes shrinks, she would be the girl you would find killing her ally in their sleep. She’s just that type of sneaky.
On the positive side, Nydia is talented at many things. She’s a great sprinter, which is a definite plus. But she isn’t much of a long-distance type of girl. But she’ll manage. Also, her heightened cunning and intelligence gives her a great upperhand in outsmarting people whenever needed. She also may not look strong, but she’s definitely gutsy and will take anyone down if she has to. She is also handy with a knife. Due to her schooling in District 6, Nydia has a broad medical knowledge which is a real advantage. If thrown in the arena, she would know what types of herbs or other substances would heal any types of wounds she would possibly receive. Which is good, because if you don’t know how to treat wounds you could end up dead. She’s naturally good with anything related to medics.

Nydia grew up with a pretty average life in a family of five. She has a 21 year old sister, Arlene, and two younger brothers: Chandler, age 7; and Emmett: Age 10. Nydia would have had a younger sister, but her mother gave birth to a stillborn baby girl. They named her Anna Grace and dug her in the district’s cemetery. The affect of that had a real toll on Nydia’s mom, throwing her into a depression that only medicine could cure. And even then, sometimes the depression returns for a while, until Nydia’s mom gets a hold of herself. Nydia’s sort of in the middle of all her siblings with age. Her parents are both very busy, because they’re constantly working. Her father is a first class surgeon, and her mother is a nurse. Her sister also got a job in a medical DNA research factory, working in chemistry and all that. Nydia is hoping to grow up and be a chemist as well, working to make morphling and other medicines in her district’s scientific labs.
Nydia grew up in a relatively rich family, considering all the money her father made as one of the district’s most successful surgeons. But even then, Nydia has still experienced some hungry days, just like everyone else who lives in the districts of Panem. She knows how to be hungry. But being the responsible person that she is, she’s desperately trying to protect her two younger brothers from this world of hunger. She’s hoping that they’ll never have to sign up for tesserae, because she doesn’t want them to be picked in the reaping.
As for Nydia’s career, Nydia is full time in school, but when she can, she volunteers at the hospital where her mom works as a nurse. When Nydia turns eighteen, she’s hoping to get an internship and a scientific research lab. Nydia is good in school, but being so clever, she can breeze through all the schoolwork and not worry too much about her grades. Although sometimes, she ditches school to go visit the cemetery, where her stillborn baby sister is. That’s the only place in the district where Nydia can truly escape. Even though it’s depressing.
