Appearance:
Ogilvie Mercury is an unexpected boy, with unexpectedly good looks. Not because he is anything relatively special but because his parents were practically voted worst looking ever in high school. How he came out with small lips, a weird nose, and downcast eyes but still managed to be handsome no one knows. All Mercury knows is that he is his parent's pride and joy, and he loves this.Personality:
Mercury is 5'7", three inches taller than his father and seven inches taller than his mother. He hasn't filled into his height unlike most of the other children in his grade. In fact, he is practically skin and bones which unlike the rest of him is exactly like his father.
Mercury spends most of his time indoors and because of this his skin is as precious as a baby's bottom. It is freckled, soft, and the color of milk. He hides a bit of acne under his hair, but besides that it is clear.
Mercury has dark brown and downcast eyes. They are, in his words, "small and insignificant in appearance but in reality the most amazing pair of slimy crystals I could ever ask for". With these eyes, he also has chocolate colored hair, which he keeps long and sweeps over his forehead every couple seconds. It curls behind his ears and on his neck, but when cut is straight.
When you put this all together, Mercury is simply an average boy. He put out some luck with his appearance and on the family tree is incredibly good looking, but with his peers he is just another person.
When you first hear Ogilvie Mercury's name, you probably think "what kind of name is Ogilvie?" Well it's a family name and the reason he goes by Mercury which sounds about a thousand times better. Plus in the science appreciative district 6, it's about the coolest thing ever.History:
Good thing it is, because everything else about Mercury is pretty lame. Although he has the looks to just fit in with all the other kids in District 6, he was raised by his parents with an outsider's values. He was taught to hate the kids with good looks and to study hard so he would actually be worth something.
They also gave him quite a few quirks, like his belief in a couple off conspiracies or the fact that he will never hold his tongue. Which, if you give him some credit is pretty courageous when everyone else is being oppressed by about everyone.
When it comes to his fellow outcasts, he is one of the crowd. He is a follower and doesn't ask a lot of questions. When he isn't hanging out with anyone, he is reading nonfiction, or studying something. He likes to make model cars, although he doesn't tell most people this. A lot of his thoughts and hobbies he keeps to himself. And Mercury likes it this way. He enjoys being the side kick instead of the superhero, because that way he is never in any real danger.
Mercury, lastly, is a hopeless romantic. He- being shy and nerdy- has never had much experience with girls or anything of that sort. He usually crushes on them from the back of the classroom and dreams of speaking a couple words to them. And sometimes he does, because that courage has to come in somewhere. But never does it get past him blushing and making a fool out of himself.
Oglivie Mercury's parents are two very intelligent scientists who had devoted their lives to science. They loved their profession and they loved each other but never in their right mind did they believe they would raise a child. Mercury surprised them. He was born a late July afternoon, as the sun began to set. He looked neither like his mother nor his father but like a perfect combination of both.Codeword: odair
A perfect combination because the Mercury's were never known for good looks but Oglvie managed to look like a regular cute baby, instead of the nerdy and awkward kids his parents had been. But as far as his childhood went, he was raised to be like his parents. He was raised to love science, which he did. And he was raised to love all the outcasts (like his parents), which he did.
As Mercury went through school, he formed a close knit group of friends. He was always a follower in this group, just going along with whatever they wanted but he was never afraid to hold his opinions back. He spent a fair amount of time away from these friends anyway. He practiced everything he did until it became a skill, but never shared it with the world (much less his friends).
His baby fat began to fall off as he turned 13 and he realized that girls, despite common belief, do not have cooties. He quickly became a hopeless romantic, and this he couldn't keep from his pack of friends. With haste, they began to tease him about his many crushes.
