Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 6
Appearance:
Raegan is between 5'0" and 5'2" depending on how much she's slouching that day. She's 100 pounds of muscle, bone and sinew who spends her days dashing around the college like a tiny blonde cheetah. Her blonde hair is kept clean, but it's dull, roughly cut and as unkempt as the homeless children she's told to avoid. Not that she cares about her appearance. Raegan has no intentions of being strikingly beautiful, though she could easily turn heads if she made the effort. Her clear skin, delicate bone structure and striking blue eyes are not as easily missed as she'd like to believe, and because of this her parents and their colleagues constantly badger her to brush her hair, clean her face and look presentable.Personality:
At first glance, it's not hard to figure out where "Rags" gets her nickname. She's runs around in ratty jeans, moth eaten sweaters and shoes that might disintegrate at a moment's notice. Her over sized clothes are easy to shrink into; she blends easily into the shadows. Unfortunately, Raegan doesn't always get to choose her clothes. Her parents force her into her sister's nicer dresses and frocks for special occasions, if only to keep the people of the District from gossiping about how a child of a relatively well off family is running around like a street urchin.
Rags keeps two objects close to her at all times. The first is a tiny silver charm that she keeps on leather lanyard around her ankle; the charm is a gift from her sister, one of the fortunate few to escape the district to work as a physician's aid in the Capitol. The charm is a Phi symbol, a math abbreviation for angle. It reminds her to see things from all angles, to stay open and unbiased. The second is a length of rope that she ties around her waist like a belt. She uses it to help her climb in cases where she can't find a good hand or foot hold.
Eventually, Rags might gain some curves and find herself on the receiving end of a lot of male attention. However, whether or not that time is coming this year remains to be seen. That's not to say that she lacks the hormones of someone her age, it's just that she's too absorbed in other activities to even consider other trivial pursuits like boys.
Raegan is an introvert. It's not that she doesn't like talking, she just don’t talk unless she has something important or relevant to say. She hates small talk, but ask about something she's interested in and she'll talk for days. Being introverted also doesn't mean that she is shy or afraid of people. What she needs is a reason to interact; she doesn't interact for the sake of it. Raegan doesn't see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. She wants everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so the pressure to fit in can be exhausting. Raegan is perfectly comfortable with her own thoughts, which means silence isn't an awkward state for her to be in. She daydreams constantly, and likes to have problems to work on and puzzles to solve.History:
To be a friend of Raegan's is a wonderful thing, because intensely values the few close relationships she has. Once you have earned her respect for being a person of substance, you’re in for good. Though she's unnervingly loyal, Raegan still keeps a piece of herself hidden from even her closest friends. Being largely ignored by her parents has caused her to disconnect herself from other people due to an underlying fear of abandonment and judgement. She freely shares knowledge and possessions with her friends, though it's more out of a desire to keep them interested rather than altruism.
Although she's very smart, Raegan has a rebellious and slightly chaotic mind. She doesn't see the point of rules; this isn't to say she is constantly breaking the rules, but she'll march to the tune of her own drum no matter what rules say otherwise. Raegan's main concern is her own emotional and physical freedom. Anyone who oppresses that is simply an obstacle to be dealt with, using whatever means necessary. Being exposed to the violence of the Games has fueled Raegan's wild streak. With a moral compass that never pointed true north, Raegan cannot be counted on to do right by others. She lives by her own laws, and those laws sometimes require a little more brutality than others can stomach.
Raegan is the third child of two District 6 chemistry professors, Tegan and Connor Morrow; however, she was raised more like an only child, considering her sister is ten years older than her and her brother is dead. She is her parents' attempt at replacing the memory of her dead brother, a 41st Game Tribute killed on Day One. They didn't bother picking a different name, a girl's name, when she was born. They also didn't bother with buying anything new for Raegan. She inherited her older sibling's clothes, toys and shoes instead, even her sister's Reaping outfits.Codeword:
She was brought up around well educated adults and raised to act poised and well mannered even at a tender young age. The more polite and proper her parents forced her to be, the more wild and raucous she acted on her own. After years of fighting to quell their rambunctious young daughter, Tegan and Connor eventually gave up. They buried themselves in their work, and found that it relieved some of the grief from losing their son. Raegan became a ghost at eight years old. She was seen and heard, but largely ignored and left to entertain herself.
Raegan still ran wild, but she began to find a balance between running free and being proper. Being proper was useful; it allowed her to sit and listen in on classes, to learn more than her less fortunate peers. And when others noticed the attention starved little girl and her keen mind, they gave her attention for it. Raegan was hooked instantly, addicted to the praise. The college became her home, the teachers became her family, and her heart was set on learning.
The Games carried on in the background of Raegan's early years. She watched dutifully alongside her parents, though her interest didn't pique until she was about ten years old. Raegan has no desire to enter The Games, but she is fascinated by the arena and the mechanics of how they work. Every year. from the sound of the gong until the final Tribute is left standing, Raegan pressed herself as close to the screen as she can get to study any glimpse of the mechanisms that drive the players together, the hidden traps that keep the game thrilling for the people of the Capitol. Raegan wants to be a Gamemaker, though she'll never say it out loud. Her slightly morbid fascination with The Games has already caused her to lose plenty of friends in the District, and she's not about to be ostracized for a dream that has a less than .1% chance of coming true.
At fifteen, Raegan is doggedly pursuing her studies, and she has an advanced grasp of math and science for her age. She has little interest in history unless it pertains to The Games (specifically the arenas) and doesn't pay very much attention to her grammar. And when her parents shove her outside to keep her fit, she explores the back alleys of her District looking for new places to climb.
