Melancholy: District 8 [DONE]

Name: Melancholy
Age: 15

Appearance: Melancholy unfortunately resides in the impoverished district 8 of Panem . His skin is pale and his lips are faded from regular sickness and lack of sufficient nourishment. His eyes are naturally brown but his pupils are somewhat large. Black paint lines travel from each of his eyes to the base of his jaw appearing as flowing tears earning him his nickname. His regular clothes consist of a black jacket, black and gray camouflage pants and black mesh tennis shoes. While melancholy is rather thin and thus appears weak his advantages lie in other places not usually let on by his gaunt appearance. He has a childlike face leading many to underestimate him and his capabilities. He often appears bored, upset or expressionless despite how he may be feeling on the inside.
Melancholy’s muscle mass is a bit lower compared to others his age but what he lacks in strength he makes up for with reasonable speed and agility. Unfortunately his sight has declined somewhat over the part few years and while he can get by just fine without glasses seeing things farther away is an occasional problem leaving him at a slight disadvantage in dangerous situations. Nonetheless Melancholy believes his mind is his greatest asset and believes strategy and careful planning can always make up for lack of strength and physical prowess; whether or not his beliefs hold true remains to be seen.
Personality: Melancholy puts up a front of weakness and insecurity until he can pinpoint personal weaknesses and exploit them for his own benefit. Speaking in a quiet hushed voice he often goes unnoticed by many of his peers until it's to late. While often deceptive melancholy is fiercely loyal to those he cares about. Those he dislikes however will make the mistake of trusting him, be exploited for what little they have and then put aside like last Sunday's newspaper. The two conflicting sides of Melancholy's personality come out when deemed appropriate, though he cannot always control this.
Melancholy is very hesitant to trust others due to his self-awareness of his own nature. At first glance he assumes everyone else is as selfish and manipulative as him making him unwilling to grow closer to his peers. Several times Melancholy has made the mistake of underestimating the capability and the intelligence of others. Acting impulsively is a regular occurrence for him and oftentimes it either helps or ruins an opportunity for him. While he tries to prevent his emotions from conflicting with his mental tendency towards self-preservation this frequently fails as his temper is quite harsh on himself and others.
Being Narcissistic Melancholy has difficulty dealing with failure and usually responds to defeat or confrontation with anger and even unexpected violence. Though he is usually cautious to begin conflict due to his low strength and lack of muscle mass he often becomes reckless in bouts of rage hurting himself and others. While he has cooperated with others in the past his self-centered attitude and lack of consideration often leaves his peers frustrated and hurt. Nonetheless Melancholy is only concerned for himself in the long run and the suffering of others is nothing but a minor setback.
History: Melancholy was born into a family of 3 as his mother died in childbirth and he only had two siblings. Unfortunately his birthday fell on the day of the reaping so every year instead of even the slightest resemblance to a celebration (not that it would be large anyway) he was quickly dressed in his best clothes and dragged off along with his brother and sister to the square. He was ineligible for the drawing but his brother turned 12 the previous year and his sister was already 15. Melancholy was used to coming to the square but didn't quite understand was going on until the announcer called the names of both his brother and his sister. He thought it was a good thing to be chosen back then before he really knew what the games where. So he smiled when the announcer did and hugged his siblings goodbye, congratulating them for "winning" the drawing. He wouldn't have said anything if he knew they would never come back.
Two years after the reaping that claimed both of his siblings he once again attended the reaping not because he had to (he was still ineligible) but it was considered disrespectful to the tributes not to. Melancholy has a bad habit of smiling when he's worried about something. When the male tribute was drawn Melancholy smiled out of sympathy knowing the same fate befell them as had his siblings. The tribute saw this and decided to "make his mark" by cutting from melancholy's eyes to his jaw leaving scar lines. He covers this in black paint in order to hide the unsightly scars that earned him his nickname. Since then he's lived alone with his father, narrowly avoiding the need for tesserae by helping out at the textile mill and making peace keeper uniforms. Melancholy hopes to avoid being reaped for the hunger games and believes his chances are slim compared to other candidates since he only has one entry.
While melancholy is certainly afraid of the hunger games (hopes to avoid it at all costs) he's always willing to approach a negative situation in a logical and resourceful manner (recourses being people) until his temper gets the best of him that is. The relationship between him and his father is very strange and they seldom exchange many words choosing to avoid inevitable conflict. Events in Melancholy's life have transformed him into a quiet but somewhat dangerous individual. He's been known to take advantage of kids with "weaker" personalities. This often goes unbeknown to his peers since those afraid of him remain quiet of his actions and those he remains neutral with just see him as a harmless wannabe. Melancholy's most valued possession is his mothers gold necklace. It wasn't real gold of course but he valued it just the same since it was all he ever had or could ever experience of his mother as she died during his birth. Melancholy believes in granting slim sympathy to his enemies rarely having a change of heart towards anyone he dislikes. This is however subject to change if the situation calls for it.
