this is how I am
Azubuike is not typical. That is to say that she believes herself to be fundamentally different from anybody else she lives around. This is not entirely correct, but there are worse things she could believe in. Such as aliens, ghosts, the aptitude of flying monkeys for baseball, or the fundamental tenets of democracy. Far worse things. Besides, individuality harms others quite infrequently in comparison to most other forms of self expression. Well, in most cases, at least. Regardless, Azubuike's central characteristics are ultimately drastically different from many of her peers, not to mention many of the adults in her life. Where most derive meaning from pleasure, money, family, or duty, Azu (I'll call her this for the sake of brevity), derives herself from two core things: the pursuit of knowledge and its' application to bettering her and her family's lives. The pursuit and application of these drive her wholeheartedly, which can lead to her steamrolling people who are less focused. Unfortunately this commonly results in alienation from many of her peers. Combine this with her above average intelligence and the startling efficiency in almost all of her actions, and it really is no wonder that her circle of friends is extremely small. Ultimately, however, she is a kindhearted person who has been jaded by the callousness of society around her. Her string of abusive caretakers has certainly not helped with this.
Another thing that is unique about Azu is her plethora of odd and uncommon talents. These include an aptitude for climbing (mostly buildings), her love and expertise in singing, and an odd affinity for computers, and indeed most technology, though her experience with these things is severely inhibited by her lack of access to interesting buildings to climb, the lack of good music to sing, and severely restricted usage of computers (she was banned from puublic terminals because the administrators largely were inable to understand what she was doing with the /sys file of their computers, and she is far too poor to be able to afford one of her own). Indeed, the only activities that she is able to regularly practice are mathematics and writing. She is a relative prodigy of maathematics, surpassing her rudimentary education shortly after completing the final level of coursework required of her in the equivalent of the seventh grade (the course was the equivalent of an advanced geometry course with some incidental trigonometry). After this, it was slow going, considering there are not many people, if any, in her district with any knowledge of calculus and its' applications in physics. Her current knowledge, after that, is completely based on what problems she has needed to solve, which range from systems of equations to low level work involving the movement of projectiles. Her other practice, writing, is largely based on how she feels at the time, which results in a wide variety of subject matter, ranging from poetry to fantasy to romance (which are quiet odd, and are really only applicable to her idea of romance which requires as much philisophical discussion as physical attraction. Her writings largely reside in large stacks of beaten up notebooks that serve as the cornerposts of her mattress.
Incidentally, this highlights a couple other quality of Azu's, her natural utilitarianism, and her logicity. This has lead her to many disputes with people who are more focused on form over function, which is an ideal that Azu vehemently disagrees with. She tends to argue that form comes from function. Another ideal that Azu adheres to is self-sufficiency, both physically and mentally. To her the crutches of drugs or alcohol are abhorrent, and being reliant on another for happiness is equally so. That is not to say that she does not enjoy the company of others, but rather that she would never think that lasting joy can truly be found in the company of another person. This has, needless to say, lead to a number of issues regarding romantic and otherwise relationships. Ultimately, this has lead Azu to largely avoid any sort of romantic relationship, as in her experience, this feeling is not mutual, and her self-reliance leads to an insurmountable strife in most relationships. The other trait mentioned was her logic. This is primarily illustrated quite obviously, as Azu tends to pick apart illogical statements and arguments as a teenage boy may consume a hamburger. That is to say, she consumes it voraciously and excretes it shortly afterwords as a brown paste. Really, this attitude does not result from a desire to make other people's days difficult, but rather results from a genuine embarrassment on the other persons behalf and a genuine annoyance on her behlf at a an illogical statement. On the other hand, Azu exceeds in choosing option D, none of the above. This is a result the utilitarian attitude that she holds towards all things. Nothing is sacred, and nothing is too valuable to abandon.

here iswhat I look like
The first thing that most people notice when they first look at Azu is her burns. They cover the upper left side of her face, including her eye. In fact, they cover her forearms and most of the left side of her body, from approximately mid-calf to her ribs, which, depending on the season, are either prominently displayed, or slightly less prominently displayed. Her feet are not well cared for, possessing an inordinant amount of grease on the soles, due to her odd habit of walking barefoot, which is certainly dangerous when one lives around an oil refinery. In fact, she has suffered burns on her feet numerous times, which has lead her to wrap them in a light cloth, which has also taken on an oily black colour, but certainly helps with the inherent dangers of walking barefoot. Typically Azu wears a worn pair of cargo pants that typically have multiple gashes that correspond to scars on either her or one of her older siblings' legs. The ends are, varying from pair to pair, either slightly singed, or totally incinerated. One of her prized possessions is a belt that she wears around her waist. It belonged to her grandfather, and is a good foot too long for her slender waist. The belt itself does not appear to be much of interest, and is really only valuable to her because of three things. One, it belonged to her grandfather (which was previously mentioned), two: it is made of real pre-Hunger Games leather (which makes it very old indeed), and three: her best friend made the buckle for her before he was incinerated in a refinery explosion.
Moving up to her torso, Azubuike is largely uninteresting, possessing some small scarring on her stomach, and, of course, the burns along her left side, which are particularly nasty in this area. Azubuike is quite athletic looking in this area, due to her small breasts and flat stomach, but this is not an accurate portrait of her athleticism, but merely a side effect of working part time on an oil refinery for the last few years. Indeed, the only unusually strong part of her body is her arms, which are toned and tanned from long hours in the sunlight moving machinery. Her skin tone is a sort of light tan, with a slightly Asiatic tint, thought this does not come out in any of her other features. Indeed, her facial features are largely those of a Latina face, gradually softened due to dissolution of her bloodline. Indeed, she is the most obvious example of this in her family, which have largely uniform features more similar to Eurasians. Indeed the difference in her appearance from that of the majority of her family's is startling, as they are more stocky and thickly built, while she is six feet tall and a mere one hundred and thirty five pounds. Their hair is mostly varying shades of blonde, while hers is a dark, almost black brown. Indeed, her height is uncommon, as there are exceedingly few teenage girls in District 9 who are her height, which often makes her stick out like a sore thumb in crowds of her peers. Azu is still growing into her height, and in prone to misjudging her height and crashing her head into door frames. She is also prone to tripping. Very prone to tripping.
Azu's hair is a dark, near-black brown, and she wears it shoulder-length. It is one of the few parts of her appearance that Azu takes pride in, as she keeps it in an excellent condition through a mix of homebrew potion-type concoctions that serve as a sort-of shampoo and conditioner. Really, they aren't much in comparison with the real thing, but they are certainly better that the grease that would typically accumulate in her hair should she let it go a little bit. Contrary to her treatment of her hair chemically and naturally, Azu does not typically comb or brush her hair often, preferring to allow it to settle into a slightly askew appearance with a few strands typically intruding upon her face, which she does not make an effort to hide, beyond sometimes wearing a home-made eye patch over her left eye. Sometimes she wears her hair in a short ponytail. Azu's eye is a myriad of colors, depending on the light. It ranges from a dark blue-grey to more of a green colour. At other times it may be a dark stormy grey. It always possesses the appearance of a piercing intellect and a keen observer. She also has a bit of a predilection for odd hats, and has a couple of odd homemade green creations that were originally sewn for her as a child.

and this is where I come from
One very significant chunk of Azu's life is her childhood, which was fairly good for a lower district citizen, which means that she was obscenely poor. Still, well off in comparison to some of her neighbors, but by most standards, a very deprived child. This manifested in her tendency towards mental activities, as they didn't require physical equipment (and therefore money), and ultimately resulted in her love of mathematics and her natural utilitarianism. Her issues were only compounded when the oil refinery that both of her parents worked at exploded, resulting in both of them being injured, and her best friend of many years' death. The same explosion also resulted in Azu's burns, which is truly a testament to the intensity of the blast. These had far reaching effects on the rest of Azu's life, as such a large event typically does.
One of the more direct results pertained to Azu's living situation. As her family's financial situation was already precarious, what with four other siblings and such, the accident, and the result of both parents being unable to work for a while subsequently had dire effects upon the family. As for a long while her parents were unable to care or provide for their children, Azu and her three older siblings took part time jobs doing miscellaneous tasks for different refineries. Unfortunately, they were not able to generate enough funds to care sufficiently for themselves, and unfortunately, this resulted in the children being split up and dispersed like candy to their assorted relatives. For Azu, this was not a pleasant experience, resulting in her being placed with a particularly vile set of collaterals, who incessantly pressured her to quit school and take up work full time (which, besides being illegal, entailed several unsavory activities). After a few months of this, Azu fled to another set of relatives, who kindly accepted her into their home. Unfortunately, these relatives, which kindly, were also slightly, to put it politely, lackadaisical, and were negligent in their care of her. Currently, this has led to her cohabiting with the same family that takes care of her sister. This has, regrettably, brought the considerable financial burden of an additional two children. For them, this is most unfortunate, but really, they are good people.
The other half of the problems caused by this are the psychological ones. This is, namely, the dependency issue. During her early years, Azu grew very close to this friend, and they became good friends. Really, it was almost a Class A Hollywood type situation. Really, they had an excellent, healthy relationship that blossomed over her childhood. This relationship probably would have eventually turned into a romantic one over the years, if he hadn't, unfortunately, you know, died. This threw a wrench on those works, and subtly, Azu changed. Prior to the incident, Azu had been a lot more open. After, she took a left at "Introverted." Needless to say, this has dramatically influenced her relationships after this, creating a de facto tendency to lean towards reserved when dealing with others. And who can really blame her? She just doesn't want to have the same kind of emotional tearage that she got from the refinery debacle.
