Liam Quill ((District 9))

Liam’s most notable feature is his wild brown hair. It’s long enough to pass his eyes and ears but it is always parted out of his face. His eyes are sharp and look a little intimidating with the dark brown hue of his irises. This however, contrasted with the delicate features on his face, a small nose and thin lips, forming close to what could be considered a baby-face. Not to mention the light complexion of his skin that made his dark eyes appear even darker.

His body was more lanky than muscular, and the only reason he looked even slightly ‘ripped’ was because any muscle he managed to acquire looked well defined on his thin body. He was rather short for his age, standing at only 5’7 and definitely lacked in the strength department.

Liam is normally seen wearing a pair of thick carpenter pants, that weren’t uncommon to district 9 factory workers. Usually a plain black t-shirt and an old brown hooded jacket lined with gray wolf fur accompanied that. The jacket was given to him by his Grandfather before he passed away and he had made the jacket back before hunting was banned in district 9. Lastly a staple to his wardrobe were the brown moccasins his mother made for him from tanned cow’s hide and lined with wool to keep his feet warm.

The only distinguishing scars or marks that Liam has on his body is the letter Q branded into his left forearm by his father when he turned 13 as a family tradition and rite of passage

Liam Quill is without a doubt, one of the most caring people you’ll ever meet. He has a strong level of empathy toward all people which allows him to pick up on other’s emotions and experience them for himself and can even seem supernatural at times. This is both a gift as well as a burden for Liam because at times it can be overwhelming to sympathize with every one all the time which ultimately leads him to a more isolated lifestyle. This strange ‘gift’ also allow people to be more open and come to him for advice with their problems. Another downside would be that because Liam sympathizes with everyone despite who they are or what they’ve done, he can often times trust the wrong people. A combination of everything is what led him to a more solitary, loner-ish life style.

Other then that, Liam is a very family oriented person. He is the first born son of his family and with that comes specific responsibilities and family traditions that he has to follow. He is loyal and willing to do anything for his family. Growing up as part of the Quill family ultimately filled his head with things like “Family always comes first” and “Always obey your elders.”

Liam can also be quite humorous, sarcastic or even cynical in the right situations, but in a group of new people he is often the quiet and one. Typically Liam can be found off on his own trying escape and avoid crowds of people. One of his favorite places to do that is on the rooftop of the factory he works in.

Liam Quill was born the first son of Abigail and Kaleb Quill. On his father’s side, the Quill family is full of skilled and notorious hunters. After the destruction of district 13 however, hunting was banned entirely and instead, everyone was forced to work in factories and refineries. The skills however have been passed down to the first born son of each family despite the capitol’s ruling. Another family tradition was the act of branding the letter Q into the left forearm as a way to symbolize their heritage.

Liam was taught a few skills as far as hunting goes, but it was evident that he was horrible with archery, spearing, and even struggled with learning snares. The only technique he really had a knack for was throwing knives which he prided himself with. His body type wasn’t quite strong enough for the brute physical part of hunting, but his thin size allowed him to be agile and quick.

Liam’s mother was always generally a stay at home mother, although she had a talent in growing plants, especially herbs that she grew and sold to the local apothecary. From this knowledge, Liam picked up the ability to identify certain types of edible herbs just by looking at them.

At the age of 6, Liam’s mother gave birth to fraternal twins, his younger brother Sura and his sister Mazzey. Liam also began collecting Tesserae to help support his family. Due to his strong sense of empathy, Liam stayed socially disconnected from kids in school and never made very many friends.

At the age of 15, Liam’s father injured his back while lifting a heavy crate in the factory and was unable to return to work. Liam decided to stop going to school and start working to help his family. Up until present day, Liam has managed not to be chosen for the reaping even with his years of collecting Tesserae. And being 17 he only has to last another 2 more years before he is free from being chosen. Though his mind will never be at ease, not as long as he has to feel the torment of other families emotions when their children are called into the Hunger Games.
