Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 10
Appearance:
Arwen is slightly attractive, although the only very striking part of her appearance is her wavy black hair. It falls just past her shoulders, and she brushes it out every night, wary of potential tangles. Other than that, she ignores most of the other components of her looks. Her pale, freckled skin would still be free of make-up even if her family could afford such luxuries. The only beauty treatment she has ever used is the occasional home-made shampoo for her hair.Personality:
She’s noticed a few things about her appearance that bother her. Her teeth are crooked and she feels like they are unnaturally big, which isn’t helped by her mother calling her “Rabbit.” What started out as a cute nickname has turned into the source of insecurity. She also hates the freckles that have appeared on her cheeks from working afternoons on one of district ten’s big cattle ranches. Her nose is oddly shaped in her opinion. At least she likes her lips.
Her clothes, although slightly shoddy, are always clean. This is one of the things her mother is adamant about. She wants her daughter to always look “put together”. The only fancy clothes she owns is her reaping dress, a purple outfit with a long skirt. And, to put it mildly, she hates it. She’s worn it since she was fourteen, her mother adding inches to it each year. She’s not overtly feminine, and dresses in general bother her.
Arwen is a little below average height, standing at 5’4. This doesn’t bother her, as there are shorter girls in her year. She’s slim and has a nice figure, but doesn’t notice it. She is pretty, and boys have started to see that. However, her slightly abrasive personality distracts them.
Arwen is sly, sarcastic, and funny. These character traits have developed as a defense mechanism from being teased when she was younger. She’s always ready with a witty comeback, but doesn’t really understand boundaries. Because of this, she’s been referred to as “mean’, but it’s not happening on purpose. She just doesn’t have a mind-to-mouth filter.History:
She’s bold and independent. Sure, she has friends, but she can’t talk to them about important stuff. She’s never been able to have a serious relationship of any kind, just because her defenses are always up…She smiles a lot. Whether she’s just told a joke, watched a funny happenstance, or watched a teacher get corrected, she’s always smiling. It’s weird, because she’s not always happy. Her smiles are more of the wry, sarcastic kind.
She’s the unofficial class clown of the “sixteen” age group, and, although she might say some mean things some times, never talks about the Capitol. She knows the dangers of making jokes about the Capitol, as her uncle was hung by peacekeepers a few years back for treason. That’s the only topic she stays away from.
Arwen likes being the center of attention, but not in a way that she causes unneeded drama or talks about herself a lot. The way she gets attention is by talking loudly and making sarcastic comments.
Arwen Lindsay Bluth was born to Mae Bluth, a twenty-year old. Her father was a peacekeeper who got transferred shortly after learning that Mae was pregnant. Arwen has never known his name or anything about him, and she tries not to think about it. Mae tried to be a good single mother for a few years, but wasn’t financially able. Because of this, she married a Mr. Michael Gob. He’s pretty much a professional cowboy, but he can provide for Mae and Arwen. That being said, ten is a poor district, and so they’ve never had luxuries like some of the merchant’s kids. If Mae was going to marry a man for fiscal support, she could have done better. However, Maxwell is a good man, and a good step-father to Arwen.Codeword: odair
Arwen was five years old the first time she was teased about not having a father to her face. (This was before Mae married Maxwell.) She ran home to her mother crying and told her about being bullied. Mae comforted her and told her that “sometimes, families aren’t perfect” and other comforting words. Arwen didn’t believe her and started building up walls. She would be funny and be seemingly shallow, so no one could hurt her feelings again. She’s made of rubber now. Nothing you say can hurt her, it only bounces off. That’s a pretty harsh attitude to learn at the age of five. Mae saw how this was affecting her daughter and set about finding a husband who could support the family and maybe put an end to the teasing affecting her daughter. Unbeknownst to her, Arwen was already over it.
Arwen currently works at a cattle ranch after school, after several failed jobs elsewhere. This earns her some money that she keeps in a small box under her bed. She’s not sure what she’s saving it for, but she is. Since her family is about in the middle of the district ten class system, she never feels obligated to donate the money to her family, so under her bed it stays.
Her uncle Tobias was killed for treason a few years back, but Arwen never really registered this. That’s how she copes with death, whether it is of a relative or a pet. She ignores the fact that they’re gone and then forgets about it. It’s not particularly healthy, but it works.
