Nicholas Maask, 10

Nick is 5'7" and wiry. He has dark skin like his sister's and black hair, which is shaggy. He has large blue eyes, which he got from his father. He has a defined chin and is clean-shaven.

Nick is strong from working with animals. He has a large scar on his left bicep from when a horse from a nearby ranch got loose and trampled him. He has very rough hands which are slightly redder then the rest of his body (see below).

Nick is rather gruff. He is reclusive and sometimes sullen. He doesn't show much emotion, but sometimes he breaks down and shouts or cries. (More on that later.) He is overprotective of Christine. He misses his parents and enjoys the company of his sister and the animals.

Nick likes the pigs on the ranch more then the other animals. He hated the bull who hurt Christine, but kept his anger within as he does all other emotions. Nick tries to spare Christine from slaughtering animals, so he does most of it and therefore has reddish hands. He makes her do some, knowing he has to prepare her somehow for the possibility that she will be in the Games.

Nick is a fast runner, as he is usually the one who rounds up their cows. He can generally hold his own in a fight, but when things get dicey, he runs. However, he often wins fights, as he releases all of his pent-up anger on the person who he fights. Most of his fights are with people who beat up Christine, so they are mostly kids her age. Nick has virtually no social life, as he doesn't really make an effort and spends most of his time with Christine.

Nick was born to two loving parents (who died before I made this because I didn't want to rp them.) He lives with his 13-year old sister, Christine, whom he loves and protects. He is over-protective, as he is scared of her being hurt or dying. Together they run a small ranch close to the town.

Nick and his sister survive. They have food, water, and shelter, but almost nothing else. He likes their ranch. Nick takes care of the pigs and helps Christine with their cows and horse. When Nick was fourteen, after their parents died, he took on most of the slaughtering duties as he saw how much it affected Christine. Their parents had done it before that.

When he was thirteen, a bull cut Christine's cheek. He started chucking racks at the bull, bruising and bloodying it, furious that it hurt his sister. He only stopped when Christine begged him too. The next day, he slaughtered it and sold the meat. When he was fourteen, his parents dies of pneumonia. He and Christine were devastated. The first three days he spent in shock, automatically comforting Christine as she cried. For the next few months, whenever Christine was out of the house, he sobbed. Once she walked in on him crying, and she started crying too. He then resolved never to show emotion, as it could hurt Christine. This is why he comes off as gruff, anti-social, and sullen. This is also why he breaks down sometimes.

Like the picture, but longer hair, no stubble, and not dressed nearly as nice. Also, he doesn't smile much.
