Appearance:
Jaylin is very short. And she never hears the end of it as she barely clears 5 foot 1. Her face and body are lightly tanned, although slightly muddled and uneven. Jay's hair is slightly darker than her skin, colored a rich dark auburn. Her eyes are striking brown, shot through with amber flecks.Personality:
As far as her body goes, Jay is reasonably healthy. Her arms, stomach and legs are well-muscled and lean. However, she finds herself overly curvy for her height. Most people think it makes her look....denser than she is.
What really catches most people's attention are the many scars that are criss-crossed across most of her body. Jay doesn't even bother to cover them. Most of them are jagged, long and uneven. Most noticeable is the burn mark that spans from her neck to shoulders. It's red and fairly recent, so it's still a little raw.
Jaylin outwardly appears calm and queit, though a little unsettling. She's the type of girl you'd pass up on the streets and probably wouldn't notice too much if not for the startling pain and grief she carried in her eyes.History:
Miss Arbez is very smart. But all knowledge comes with a price. Hers is stabilty. She has trouble seperating thoughts from reality, often confusing the two. She hears and sees things that aren't there.
Truth be told, Jay doesn't have many real friends, because she's not normal by their standards. However, she doesn't care. In fact, Jaylin is often outright anti-social. She tends to find more comfort in books and art. She finds that books are better friends as opposed to people since they very rarely hurt people.
Jaylin grew up believing people were out to get her. When she was very young, about 5 or so, she was shoved into the wall by her mother and broke her arm while her 'Ba' was at work. Her mother covered it up when her dad came home that day by saying Jay had climbed up a tree and fell, which was legitimate since it was a favored activity of hers. Her mother was trying to get her to stop hearing and seeing things. By slamming her against a wall. Brilliant, eh?Codeword: ODAIR
In any case, things like this continued to occur and her Ba never suspected a thing. If he did, he never stopped it or voiced suspicion. Jay got the majority of her scars from being abused by her mother, whom Jay had begun to suspect wasn't entirely sane either.
This had gone on for a very long time. When Jaylin was nearly 15, her mother snuck up on her while Jay slept and pressed hot coals across her back. Jay kicked and fought, but refused to cry out. In a fit of sanity, her mother realized what she'd done to her own daughter. She bound Jay's wounds, apologized and killed herself.
Jay is and always has been very close to her Ba. Even closer now. Still, she can't bear to face him for too long for fear of seeing those big brown eyes, clouded with sadness. She works long and hard in the field every day with her mother's scythe, left to her after she died. Working, reading and drawing are her only escapes from the pain. At night, she has nowhere to turn.
