Ava N. Sikora- District Twelve

Ava is a small girl from the Seam who is remarkably ordinary. In everything that she is, from looks to intellect, she screams the stamp of the Seam. She is underfed, as is everyone, small in stature, and carries around the usual tan skin and grey eyes with brunette hair that is so typical in District Twelve's Seam. However, the one thing that separates Ava from the bunch is her ability to slip in and out of small places. She is not only small because of her lack of nutrition, but also small because she clocks in at 5 foot and two inches on a good day. That is why people are never alarmed when Ava goes M.I.A., she's just doing what she does best hiding in plain sight.

Her eyes have the gold flecks of someone from town when she is out in the sunlight. This is a trait picked up from Great-Great-Grandmother who left town to marry a coal miner. She has a whip gash in her right shoulder after she was caught stealing from the apothecary when her brother was ill with the flu. It marks her as Seam skum if there is any lower mark. However, regardless of the general consensus of her whip scar, Ava secretly regards her scar as a badge of honor and a reminder of what the Capitol inflicts on everyone who is abused by them. It is a badge though that she carries in secret.

Because she is so ordinary, not ugly-- she is actually attractive when she is not covered in the filth of the Seam-- the Peace Keepers overlook her and this gives her an advantage. Her quick speed makes her trademark stealing to feed her family and selling to the Hob very useful. Not only is her quick speed limited to her feet, but to her tongue as well. Although Ava is usually the quietest person in the room, she likes to observe other people and get a good feel for the people in the room, when Ava is threatened she has the quickest and smartest mouth south of district nine.

Ava has a brutal temper and a deep hatred for the Capitol. But after her run in with a whip at twelve after stealing and being caught she has learned to hold her tongue. She plays the part of the simply pretty girl who was misguided once very well. Deep inside, however, there is a mistrust of everyone who bares a Capitol emblem. Her mistrust for the Capitol results in her constant obsession with buying and selling goods in the Hob. She enjoys the prospect of going something that is against Capitol rules and the thrill of perhaps being caught. Although the mystery with Ava is that she is quiet, so no one knows how to interpret everything she does.

She is not as smart as most of the children in the Town. However, she has a knack for taking whatever she finds... or steals and turning into something edible, even good. Her natural talent for cooking has often come in handy because food is scarce in the Seam, but hunger is not.

Ava hopes one day that she can escape the hands of the Capitol with her brother Holden. She knows that dreams of leaving the Seam are foolish, but she bids her time waiting for the day when she will be free of the frivolity that is the Capitol-- she hates fake and material things.

Ava Sikora has two siblings, both older brothers-- Laurent and Holden. Laurent is 18 years old and during his years of the reaping he signed up for a total of 38 tessera. Holden, who is only sixteen, is free of the tessera due to his older brother, but none-the-less the reaping hangs over his head. Laurent is unusual for the Seam with his bright blonde hair and grey eyes. But like Ava, Holden has the same Seam trademark look of grey eyes, dark hair, and tan skin.

Her mother was a famous Hob black salesman until she married Ava's father who was a coal miner. Dara Sikora now is a full time mother who mysteriously has a knack for going off a couple hours in the day and returning home with a few coins. Maximus Sikora is a good coal miner, but he has his flaws... mainly white wine. However, he is a good father and has a deep respect for his government.

Ava is fourteen years old which makes all of her siblings two years apart. Laurent has a way with words and is dashingly attractive, Holden broods and curses his lot that the Capital has dished to him, and Ava is rebel at heart.

Ava was born on the third of July in the year of the 44th Hunger Games. At birth she was born blind in one eye and only because her mother sold the District their wine could she call in a favor for Capitol medicine to fix Ava's eye. Although Ava now in her left eye sees in black and white she does have vision.

At the age of seven her father took her to the Hob for the first time where her hatred of the Capitol was nourished. Over the years she gained a large mouth about her opinions against the Capitol and also learned the art of stealing to help her family in that time. A combination of both of these flaws lead her to her whipping in the town square. She had stolen a vial of Capitol medicine for her brother sick with the flu. Her theft was not caught until she opened her mouth in the Hob and bragged about how stupid the Peace Keepers were. They were tipped off on her felony and whipped her in the town sqaure as a means of teaching her a lesson. Now she rarely talks much.
