DON'T IGNORE HIDDEN DESIRES
PAY ATTENTION, YOU'RE PLAYING WITH FIRE..

That was all Larae could think. Shock ran through her, fraying every last nerve one at a time. She had accepted and no one that cared had been there with her.Except for Mace. Her mother, Celia, had adamantly refused to be by Rae's side, though she was surely sitting at home, waiting. Rae wouldn’t be going home. She would be going to the Capitol. The realization was terrifying. Rae had never known anything outside of District 10, her mother…and him.
Where was he? Had he left for home already? Probably. Rae didn’t expect him to be there any longer than he had to be. He was safe. Able to go home and live without fear for another year. She, on the other hand, had to be ready.
Ready to fight…and to win. Not just for herself, but for District 10 as a whole. It was almost too much pressure on the eighteen year old. Rae instinctively reached for the charm that dangled from the chain around her neck.
So many memories in that little object, some she didn’t even know. Others were clear and vivid within her mind. The day she’d received it, the day she lost it…was it only just days ago she had been on that farm, glaring at Mace for taking her necklace?
It seemed like a lifetime ago now, almost as though it hadn’t happened to her. Those moments belonged to someone else. Someone with less fire, passion and drive. Someone who wasn’t a tribute in the Capitol’s Games. She was changed for life by two simple words.
I.
Accept.
Apart, they held no power. But, put those two innocent words together, and something happened.
Larae Francesca Vacanti was ready to show the other tributes who she was and what she was made of. She had trained all her life for this day. This hour. This moment. Victory would be hers if it was the last thing she did…and though it most likely would be, she wasn’t afraid. Fear would have to stand aside. There was no place for it where Rae was headed.
