Mara swung the door open to feel the blazing heat on her skin, she blinked a few times to get used to the bright sun and walked over to the animal pens. She flopped onto the rickety fencing that surrounded her goats. Mara looked down at the one goat that was outside, Mister. The small shack for the goats to stay in that she had built when she was younger, so it didn't have very good quality. She hopped over the fence and knelt down to pet Mister.
"Hey, Mister." She greeted. Mister made a sort of groaning noise to indicate he knew where she was.
Mara looked up at the sky, hand protecting her eyes from the sun. Mara stood up straight and took a deep breath in. She hadn't been outside in the wide, open, fresh air since her foot got sprained. Mara felt free and safe. She hopped back over the rickety fence very carefully to make sure it didn't fall down.
Mara slowly walked over to the shack and, as she was about to open the shack door, thought, Wow...It's been awhile since I've been out here. The air issosweet...
Mara opened the shack door and looked at Rosey, another one of her goats, she was having kids. There were three kids, who Mara had yet to name, but she was, sadly, only aloud to name one.
She flung the door open, walking through.
"Hey, Mara. How are the goats doing?" Her mother's sweet voice filled the room.
"Good. The little ones are going great as well!" Mara answered happily. "I just need a little bit of water."
Mara noticed her mother start to frown but got a mouthful of water anyway.
Might as well get the things to sell and take them to the merchant. Mara thought, repeating it nto her mother. Her mother's frown started to creep up to a grin. Mara said her good-byes and grabbed the milk and cheese they had from the goats. Mara grabbed her sack and put her things in it and headed out for the merchant. She flung the sack on her back and walked out the door. Walking along the imaginary path that she usually took to the merchant, she saw people with their livestock, giving them food and petting them.
Mara finally got to the merchant's after a while. Mara was quite tired from the long walk she just made.
"Hello!" She called.
A few people waved, some just smiled in her direction, and some people just ignored her. She walked up to the counter and said, "Hey, I've got the usual for you, milk and cheese."
Mara emptied her sack and the merchant nodded then placed a few coins in her direction.
"Thanks." Mara replied.
"No, thank you." The merchant said.
Opening the door, Mara stepped through it and started to walk home.
When Mara got home she threw her empty sack in the general direction it was supposed to go and she flopped onto her bed, face-up. She had her hands behind her head and looked up at the ceiling and slowly faded into sleep.
