Eon wasn't too fond of heights; not to say he was afraid. But the heigher you got, the smoggier the air was. It was just a fact of life here in District 5, since the oil rigs started popping up. But the ground wasn't exactly any better, and the rooftop of his family's apartment building was the only place he could break out his viola and see how rusty he'd become.
Eon didn't often play his viola; if anyone were to catch him, those idiots from school would resume picking on him for it. He was almost an adult, he could throw a mean right hook, and he always told himself he didn't care about petty juvenile 'teasing' but it was still a blow to the ego to be called 'girlie' in front of your very sexist Father. So to save himself from the shame of being looked down upon by his peers, he'd snuck onto the roof to play.
The viola in question was a little old; his mother had played it when she was his age. But it was still decently tuned, and aside from a little dust, didn't look too bad. It didn't sound too bad either, though Eon knew he'd have to sit down one of these days and restring it. The bow was in worse shape; he was sure someone must have sat on it. He didn't know where he was going to get another; perhaps he'd just have to try and salvage this one. But he knew it would hold up for at least one last song, so he tucked the instrument under his chin, and began playing.
He was right, he WAS really rusty. He stopped playing this thing, what, three years ago? Four? It was probably longer than that, he was hitting wrong notes right at left! But after a few minutes of warming up, he slowly began to improve, until he could almost play through the scales flawlessly. A smile broke across his face, and while he was getting lost in the music, he didn't hear the distinctive creak of someone climbing up the fire-escape, and didn't see the shadow fall across the rooftop as that someone stepped up onto the roof.
((Open for anyone to jump in and be the person who just climbed up! (-: ))
