Now it's Just Inconvenient

Nick would imagine in most of the districts around Panem that the summer recess from school would be the best time of year. He assumed that this would be the only time of year that they would get any sort of sun. In those districts, people would spend their entire days outside like their was a leak of toxic gas inside their own homes. Nick was glad that he wasn't in one of these districts and felt lucky that he lived in the southernmost district in Panem. Even if he spent the entire summers inside, it was a wide sight better than being knee deep in that white fluffy stuff that they called snow up in the north.
Since the beach was no longer an option in this type of weather, Nick was trying to find a new spot to spend his time in the summer. His house? No,no one was home this time of year and the games were over. Some girl from District Twelve had won this year which seemed awfully strange to himself. They were the poorest district there was, but somehow they kept sprouting winners out of coal miners. It was getting a bit old to Nick. There wasn't exactly a defined hangout spot in the summer, so Nick decided to go to the supermarket.
The market building was right smack in the middle of the district square, probably the biggest building in the district. It was as tall as a three story building, but not even a second floor was to be found in this market. Giant racks of fish were being dissected by what seemed to be around a fifth of the population of the district each day. Blood spewed from over-sized butcher knifes on the far end of the building as fishes were cut into bite sized pieces. Perfect for the people of four. Just like everything.
Nick leaned against the a brick wall in a much smaller section; the bread area. Just a few shelves of bread standing next to each other, it was hardily view-able compared to the hulking shelves of fish. He sighed in boredom, wishing one of his parents didn't have to work. Each day he had to do everything himself, not have anyone to help him do or pay for anything. It was like he was on his own. Nick tried to tell himself otherwise, that it was a maturing experience. But that wouldn't do it. He wished he had was able to see one of his parents each day. He sighed, knowing this was nothing more than what would forever be an unanswered wish. Maybe today someone would notice him here.
