Throwing up isn't unfamiliar to Jerica. Her mother taught her to purge at a very young age and she's been doing it ever since. So much so, that her gag reflex has grown to be almost immune to Jerica's fingers. Four weeks ago, when Jerica threw up without a finger or a fork, it took her by surprise. And then she threw up the next morning and the next morning and the next, she assumed she had caught the flew. Or maybe even some form of STD, but nothing serious. She wouldn't allow herself to believe anything serious.
It took her four weeks and no other symptoms before she visited a doctor. And now that she was puking yet again, this time behind the doctor's office, she finally knew what was wrong. It wasn't a cold, no. It wasn't an STD, no. Why couldn't it just be a fucking STD?
"Congratulations! You're pregnant!" Jerica recalled the nurse's irritating, high-pitched voice that perfectly matched her long, yellow hair. The doctor clapped her hands together as her smile revealed her fake white teeth. "Oooh, I bet it's a girl! Don't you sweetie?"
Jerica stared at her incredulously. While her first feelings were shock, the doctor's happiness soon turned those into anger. Jerica pursed her lips and clenched her fists, resisting the urge to shove a tongue depressor down this woman's throat. As the woman kept speaking about the excitement of a baby growing inside of you, Jerica's fury raised inside of her. When the doctor finally took a breathe, awaiting Jerica's answer to some baby question, Jerica promptly stood up and said "Are you a fucking idiot?"
Jerica grabbed her jacket off of the counter and went for the door. "Cunt," Jerica said under her breath. She knew the nurse still heard it, though. Jerica blew through the doctor's office. She needed out of there, now. Pregnant?! PREGNANT? Jerica reached the alley and couldn't hold it in anymore. She bent over and threw up in the nearest trash can.
When Jerica walked home she thought about the possible fathers. The doctor had said she was a month pregnant. Who did she sleep with around one month ago? As the man's faces filled her mind, she pulled her jacket tight around her. This was the first time she had ever felt vulnerable, like she needed to cover up. Could people tell? She stomped home, and with each angry step she eliminated another man. She had always been careful and cautious and always used protection. Except...Fuck.
Jerica walked into her empty house and went straight to her bedroom. She couldn't even look at herself in the mirror. She sat down on the bed. How would she tell Callidos? Maybe she didn't have to. Maybe she could just get rid of it. Before she knew it she was crying. No, bawling. Hot tears rolling down her face so fast, she couldn't catch her breathe.
She let herself cry. It had been at least three years since the last time she cried. Crying was for the week. But she couldn't stop it now. It was just too much for her. She grabbed one of her pillows and held it to her. As she hiccuped over her tears, she formulated the plan in her head. She heard a knock on the door. She didn't answer, not looking like this. Another knock, loud and fast. She didn't even question the urgency of it, she just held the pillow closer.
Her tears were slowing when she heard the door open. She only knows one person who knows where her spare key is. Shit. This is not what she needed right now.
