The mess was gone from the man who I had killed. The puddle of blood and the stink had been washed and scrubbed away. I had the kids help me until I had been able to tell they would have barfed if they had stayed any longer. So I had cleaned the rest of it by myself.
I was taking the trash bag outside when I began to wonder. What would have happened if I hadn't been fast enough. What would my world be like if they had died and I hadn't been able to save them as I had. I shuddered at the thought and forced myself to answer the question. I would probably have gone ballistic. The capitol had already killed my father, if they had taken the rest of my family away from me as well then..... I shook my head and continued to carry the trash down to the street when I saw my mother and my grandma. I waved happily at them. My mothers long blond hair floating gently with the wind. My grandmothers hair on the other hand was gray and secured in a tight bun at the back of her head. They looked almost exactly alike except for the abundance of wrinkles on Granny and the lack of wrinkles on my Mother. They both went into the house and I set the garbage down on the street and stood there.
I didn't know what to do know. Not about the trash, about my life. I had always aspired to destroy the capitol but how could I do that if was stuck here in District 11 my whole life.
I was jolted out of my thoughts by a shriek from inside the house. I turned around and rushed to the house when I felt two pairs of hands grab me and restrain me. I pulled my arms from the mystery people and sprinted to the house. When I got there I found my mother bleeding from a wound on her head and Granny trying to hush the children. The only people who didn't belong there were two tall men dressed completely in black. They wore black slacks and oddly formal black shoes. I couldn't see their shirts but they wore floor length trench coats. One had sun bleached hair and sunglasses. The other didn't even try to hide his eyes. He had hair to match the others but his eyes were openly staring at me. They were pale blue with white flecks around the edge. When I looked him in the eyes it looked as if he were gloating. My eyes flicked to them and then back to my mother.
Her blond hair which had been shining in the sunlight just a moment ago was now red on one side from the wound on her head. I was frantic until I noticed the light movement of her chest. She was alive
I tried to run to her when I was restrained yet again. I turned to two men dressed in black like the others. They held me back while I shrieked and clawed and kicked at them to let me go. They ignored me and pulled me back out of the door. My last glimpse was of the children still huddled in the corner with granny sheltering them. I flicked my eyes at the two men in black that were still in the room and saw one pull something box shaped out of his coat.
The two men who were holding me dragged me out of the room and gaged me once we had left the house. I shrieked at the top of my lungs but the gag choked it off and made me cough horrendously. I was dragged off from the house into the orchard. I had struggled the whole way only ending up with bruises to show for it. The men stooped a ways away from the house and waited. They were still restraining me so I couldn't escape. I continued to struggle until I saw the two men that had been in the room approach from across the orchard. They nodded to the two men restraining me and the one with out the sunglasses checked his wrist. Apparently he had a watch there and counted down silently.
Five, Four, Three, Two.
He stopped at two and I only had a split second to realize he was gazing in the direction of my house.
"One." I heard him say out loud. His voice was dripping with pleasure.
Nothing went in slow motion. Nothing sped up. I just saw it all like I was watching form some where else.
I watched my house blow up.
I staggered for a moment. I didn't know what to do. Why? What had I done? My first reaction was sadness, longing, for the arms that would never hold me again. The laughs and jokes of my siblings. The curt order of my Granny. I think all my memories of them passed across my eyes. But all of those were gone. Up in smoke.
My next reaction was anger. My resort when I didn't have an answer.
I didn't even think before I twisted my arms and flipped over my restrainers. I twisted their arms together and in the process slammed there heads against each others. I then flipped out a knife from each shoe and caught one in each hand.
I threw one at the sunglasses man and one at the other one. They hit dead on in their eyes. I turned back to the two men who had restrained me. One was trying to stager up. I walked over to him and twisted his neck, putting him into a sleep he would never wake up from. The other man seeing what I had done was attempting to crawl away.
I walked over to him and put my foot over the back of his neck. I leaned my face down next to his ear and whispered, "Do you think I'm cruel? Do you think I'm crazy?" I waited from him to answer. When no answer came I smirked, "Your right."With that I applied my weight on my foot. *Crack* I walked away as the mans eyes glazed over and retrieved my knives from the two blond-haired men's eyes. I wiped them off on the cloths and then dipped my fingers in a pile of blood that was leaking from their eyes. I smiled and put a K on each of the mens four heads.
I wanted the Capitol to know who had killed these men. I wanted them to know and be afraid.
I walked away from the scene and headed to where I knew the boundary of District 11 would be. When I got to the fence I climbed a tree near it and jumped to the other side.
There was no going back now. Nothing to go back to in the first place.
When my family had bee killed something inside me had broken. Something that I wanted to say broke. Because now I can kill. Now the Capitol will know my name.
