Clio
I hummed happily as I stared out of the train window. We were rolling past the forests and open land between District 2 and District 3. We had just done a show in District 2 and we were going to stop in District 3 then make our way back to the Capitol. I moved my arm so it hung half out of the window. I let my hair flow down partially out the window and closed my eyes. I think I fell asleep I’m not sure.
A jolt from the train woke me up and I opened my eyes swiftly moving back from the window. We weren’t at District 3…. What were we stopping? I moved to my closet and changed out of my pajamas into some holey light colored jeans and a dark blue long sleeved T-Shirt. When I was done I went to the door of my cabin and opened it. The long hallway of the train car greeted e and I watched as some of the other people who lived in my ca poked their heads out.
I closed my plain white door behind me and went to the front of the car skipping along the different cars until I got to the very front car. I saw some of the people I knew and when I walked in they all turned to me.
I smiled at them as they welcomed me and then asked, “Where are we?” One of the train workers smiled sheepishly and said, “I messed up the train we’ve stopped until we can fix it. Sorry Ms. Clio.” I smiled. All the staff of the train called me ‘Ms. Clio.’ I never could figure out why, I had asked them all to stop but they just ignored my protests and continued calling me that. I had gotten use to it after a while and dropped the subject.
However, this was one of the greatest opportunities I would ever have. I was never really allowed to go outside that much. “Can I go into the forest?” I asked hopefully. “Oh please please please.” Some of the other circus people exchanged worried looks and I made a pleading face. They sighed and just nodded sending someone after me as I jumped of the train right then and there. I never got to do anything like this. Ever. I had never seen the forest or anything like that. I didn’t even think they would let me today. But they had and that was all I cared about.
I walked through the forest conscious of the person behind me. I moved away some of the branches and such smiling and laughing. I hadn’t thought that leaves would be so soft. We finally got to a clearing and I started twirling happily in circles. “Oh it’s so beautiful! It’s wonderful!” I finally fell down on the ground of the clearing laughing.
I looked up as I saw something shiny from the corner of my eye. This was my chance to get away. I wanted to be alone in the forest but the person would continue to follow me. I stood up suddenly and ran to the object I had seen. The person, who was supposed to be watching me, followed me. I looked around then started veering off and away from him. He tried to keep up but I had better stamina then him, from dancing. I started making zigzags through the forest.
After a while I stopped since I couldn’t here him behind me any more. I sat down on the floor and was breathing hard when I heard a sound off to my right. “Hello?” I called out cautiously. I didn’t think anyone would live all the way out here.
