Appearance
There once was a time when Sabine, towering at 6’2’’, could walk down the street, swinging her curvy hips, while thrusting out her ample chest, and turn heads. It’s been many years since then, but people can still see those old, faded features on this aged woman’s body. Sabine prides herself with her ability to retain her figure, although she’s aged. Still tall and curvy, Sabine refuses to ever slump, having always been taught to have a straight back when she sits. Despite spending most of her life sitting, Sabine’s stomach remains relatively flat, with only some fat there.
Over the years, Sabine’s light, peach-colored skin has become wrinkled. Her callused hands from working at the loom for many years have become even more worn and withered, much like her feet. She seldom takes the time to paint her nails. The light hair that once covered her arms and legs has steadily fallen out of the years, leaving Sabine with hairless, but wrinkled, arms and legs, leaving the only hair to her eyebrows and head.
Sabine’s face is oval, accented with high cheekbones, still standing out considerably, a feature of her former beauty that has refused to be overcome by the wrinkles. The wrinkles on Sabine’s face aren’t too prominent, creasing only at her forehead, slightly on her cheeks and around her eyes, creating crow’s feet. Sabine’s lips are neither thick nor thin, but rather long, usually painted either pink or red. At first glance, her teeth appear white and straight, but if Sabine opens her mouth to wide, one would be able to see the four silver caps on the back of her teeth, punishment for eating sweets.
Her eyes with their crow’s feet at the edges have remained as bright blue as ever, veiled only slightly by short lashes. Slender light eyebrows hang above them. With age, Sabine’s hair, once thick, long and blonde, has thinned considerably. It’s still blonde, but is cut to her chin in a bob, hiding her tiny ears.
Personality
If you were to choose one word to describe Sabine, it would be lazy. Though she began working at the loom in her teen years, before then Sabine was spoiled, something that has impacted her life considerably. As a child, she always had everything done for her and she still expects that today of her servants. Even working at the loom, she’d often sit. Sitting is Sabine’s favorite thing even now as mayor. Her motto is: “Why stand when you can sit?” When she must stand or move around, Sabine is known to become exceedingly irritable, constantly dreaming of when she can sit next.
As she expects everyone else to do things for her, Sabine can become increasingly impatient. This impatience can lead to her snapping out at people and becoming rather temperamental. Sabine never likes to be kept waiting. When served in an effective way, Sabine can become rather amiable. She loves to reward others if they please her and is a generous awarder. If someone makes her feel good, she wants to make them feel good.
Though she didn’t excel at school, Sabine is clever. She managed to gain the title of mayor using her cleverness to manipulate. She knows (or knew) how to use her body in order to get what she wanted and is an extraordinarily persuasive speaker. She can convince anyone of anything. This speaking skill has aided her a lot in her speeches as mayor, making her an effective speaker.
The mayor loves comfort more than anything. Her mind will often wonder to warm beds, tasty meals and everything else in between. Which is the reason why Sabine is steadily becoming more and more desperate each day. She’s realized that her time as mayor is dwindling. The mayor is supposed to be much younger, not someone of her age. However, Sabine is not willing to lose her cozy life. Therefore, Sabine has begun launching a desperate campaign to keep her spot. When Sabine wants something, she will do everything in her power to get it, no matter the cost.
History
Sabine was born at a time of conflict when rebels ran amok through the Districts and the Capitol fought back with all they had. The only child of a family whom derived their wealth from their work at the loom, Sabine grew up spoiled. Anything she wanted, she got. Her parents, though weary from working day to day on the loom to produce the lovely, desirable silk that brought in money, lived to please her. Showered with gifts, and never having to do a thing, Sabine learned how to sit and wait for others to do her biding, something that has never left her.
While she was still in her childhood, the Capitol once more rose up and with it, the Hunger Games, making Sabine just shy of Reaping age. When her time came around, as a twelve year old and eligible to be Reaped, her parents' attitude changed. Though they, like many, resented the Games, they saw this, their daughter's coming of Reaping age, as their daughter's also coming of working age. The day after the girl survived her first Reaping, her mother sat her down before the loom and began to teach her how to use it. Day after day, Sabine rose early to help on the loom with her parents, went to school, came home and once more, took her spot at the loom.
Sabine, obedient to her parents, did this work, but with some grumbles and the occasional tantrum. Out of love, Sabine’s parents put up with this and once she had survived the Reaping and was blossoming into adulthood, began looking for a husband for her. They brought to her Jack Yussler, the son of two relatively wealthy merchants. Though they had little in common, both put up with this marriage, Jack for Sabine’s already attractive body and Sabine for Jack’s wealth, knowing it would promise her a luxurious life away from the loom. They were wed and moved into a comfortable house together where Jack continued his family’s trade, while Sabine lived, living off of her husband’s income and the money her parents sent.
A few months later, Sabine’s parents passed away quietly, literally within days of each other. Her father went first with a heart attack and a few days later, her mother went to sleep and didn’t wake up, dying of the same ailment. The hopeless romantics of District 8 sighed, saying she died of a broken heart and that they were together now. Though Sabine was upset her parents were gone, she found herself a bit more burdened by their deaths. That took away the money they sent to her and Jack, which had helped them a lot. That also meant she inherited the loom. After a long argument with Jack about it, who saw the more rational answer to their dilemma with the money, Sabine was resigned to once more take up spinning, something she’s always detested.
Though she lived in relative comfort, Sabine wasn’t yet satisfied. It wasn’t until later in life that her time came to do something about it. The mayor had recently died. His spot was up for grabs. His spot that included a beautiful mansion and servants. As Sabine soon learned, the position also had less demanding duties. It was perfect! She decided to run.
As a mere merchant, never ever involved in anything political in her life, Sabine faced a problem. Although it was obvious, from her speaking skills, she was the best choice, the other choices, boring though they were, were better known, more likely to be voted in. This was when Sabine’s desirable, though aging, body came into play. This was also where the birth control pills Jack made Sabine take so that she wouldn’t have his children became more valuable to her. Jack could see what was going on, but he, too stubborn to admit that his wife had cheated on him, kept his mouth shut and when she was voted mayor, rejoiced too.
Sabine has been mayor ever since. Though Jack died over two years ago, as a result of tripping down the stairs and breaking his neck, she still keeps his ashes in her own, by her bed. As she grows older, Sabine grows more and more desperate, realizing how her time as mayor is wavering. Despite her unwillingness to do much, Sabine will not rest until her job as mayor is secured for life, ultimately securing her life in complete and utter luxury.
