The cool autumn breeze rustled the leaves in the forest, creating a loud roar. Nearby, Aspen could vaguely make out the sounds of songbirds singing their greetings to each other. Songs, in fact, she had caught herself humming occassionally. She knew she should be working right now, steadily swinging her axe at trees, but today, she couldn't bring herself to do it. But today was so picturesque, sapphire blue skies supported brilliantly white clouds, and the changing leaves showed off their lovely flouresent colors, she just wanted to enjoy it. She looked up at a tree with her namesake, thinking that it would feel almost like suicide to cut down an aspen. The girl smiled, shook her head, and continued on clearing the thought from her brain. Fall was her favorite season, though it was too ephemeral for her liking. The crisp, clean air filled her lungs with the scent of leaves. It smelled like home.

Aspen brushed her fingers along the low-lying branches of the delicate foilage as she passed by. Occassionally, she would pluck a leaf and roll it between her small fingers. She was at peace in the forest. The deeper in she ventured, the more imminent the sound of axes became. She sighs, thinking of how it's such a shame to ruin such beautiful creations. Upon walking more, she noticed a body lying on the forest floor in the distance. Could this have been some unfortunante creature that had reached it's demise? Curious, she cautiously steps closer. No, this was no animal, this was a girl. Nearby, there was a broken axe tightly wedged in a tree. What exactly had happened here? The girl was still breathing, good. She breathed a sigh of relief. Wait, was her eyes open? They were, and they were staring right at her.

"He-hello?" She barely managed to whisper. Aspen had never been one to start conversations, or even make friends for that matter. This girl looked about her age, which unsettled her a little. Mother had taught her to be prim and proper, among adults. She never did prepare her for talking to young ones, such as this girl. Honestly, Aspen couldn't even recall the last time she had spoken to a teenager. She nervously looked at the girl, waiting for a responce.

The hostility in this girl's voice was clear to see, yet Aspen stood there, unsure of what to do next. She focused her gaze down to her feet, all to avoid the fiery gaze of the girl now standing in front of her.

Aspen was right, her sharp words had opened the floodgates of harsh comments. Insult after insult, she knew she had lost this arguement, and there was nothing more that she could do. Defeated, she sunk down to the forest floor, and sat on her knees.

I look at the girl standing in front of me. What I said must have struck a chord in her heart, because immediatly her attitude changed, and her once, hard, ruthless eyes softened. She begged me not to cry, but the waterworks were already flowing, and the more I tried to stop, the more I seemed to sob. Soon enough though, I ceased crying, leaving me with red, puffy eyes. I looked up, and saw the clouds threating to rain upon us. I sigh and glance back at the girl, who had mentioned something about going to her house. I shrug my shoulders,
