Damon Hayes - District 9

Damon has dark hair, it’s usually quite messy and he can’t keep his hands away from making it even more ruffled up. He has dark eyes, a tanned complexion and a wicked smile that always seems to attract him the female attention, not that he wants it, well, apart from Faith’s attention. He is fairly tall- at least 6' and of a slightly muscly build.

His added extra hunting catches which does make him slightly better off, only slightly though, making him healthier on the whole. He doesn’t have much meat on him, but he manages to keep fit, strong and in the best shape he can be under the conditions that he is under.

He usually wears the same battered brown leather jacket, and some form of shirt under it- this can vary from white to brown to black, although it’s not as though he has loads. The shirts are usually quite tight fitting, showing off his toned muscles from his days of hunting and constant exercise. He wears normal trousers, usually black and his big, military style boots are pretty much his only footwear.

Damon isn’t exactly the brightest, bubbly and most out there of boys, he’s nothing like that. He’s one of the more moody types; he sticks to the shadows most of the time. But people like him, for what reason he does not know. He has a kind heart, hidden behind his strong exterior, and the invisible walls he’s built up against the world outside of him and Faith. However, he is much like Faith in that he has somewhat of a short temper, which was constantly the case when he was living with his family.

Damon is strong and brave; he will stick up for what he knows is right and if someone doesn’t agree with him, pity them. He has rather a sharp tongue that can get him into trouble at times, but then again, he has a strong fist that he can use to fight his way out of trouble. Even with his strength though- Damon can have his weak moments, when he thinks he isn't winning, as much as he refuses to give up, he can't help but let thoughts of failure and what could happen slip into his mind. As just mentioned, he isn’t much of a ‘give upper’ he keeps on trying until he gets what he wants or needs.

He isn’t anywhere near mysterious- if he has something to say he’ll say it, and the people of District 9 most definately know his feelings on many things. He doesn’t keep much hidden away. But only if it is necessary, most of the time he stays back and lets other people take the limelight. He’s caring- especially for Faith, when he gets a good hunt, he will leave some at his parents’ house for them, just because he left, it doesn’t mean he stopped caring as he cares deeply for those close to him and his loved ones. Even people he does not know, if he feels obliged to ptrotect or help them in any way, he will strive to try and do that.

Damon was born in the poorer part of District 9- to his then teenage parents who had had two children before he had even come along when they had been 19. He’s never known anything more than he has, yet he resents it. He resents being there while there are people flaunting their money up in the other Districts. It annoys him greatly. His family are perfectly happy though, which annoys him slightly. They shouldn’t be happy with the way they are living, as it's not the best way; they should be angry and resentful like him. But they’re not. They just get on with it; accept their poor and depressing dead end life pretty much for what it is, which is dull working in factories and the like. His strong and very heartfelt opinions have calmed down over the years, but at 16, he is still resentful of the way that he has to live.

He lived with his parents, Caleb and Graihagh Moriarty and his five siblings, two elder and two younger, in order; Mason, Saoirse, Dianna, Beth and Haydon, up until the age of 13 when he decided that enough was enough and he was out of the family home. He was always fighting with his Father, disobeying his parents for ridiculous reasons simply because he was a very angry early teenager. He was like a firecracker until he matured; little things made him fly off the handle sometimes. Maybe he was just an angsty teenager, he may have loved his parents, but he seriously did not get on with them.

He found a tiny house, tinier than what he had been in before, but at least he wasn’t with his family anymore. Apart from his brother though- his eldest brother Mason lives with them as he is old enough to be their Guardian and it allows him to be away from home. He sees his parents a lot though; it hurts sometimes, knowing how he should perhaps have been a better son to his parents, a better brother to his siblings, Mason understands though. But if they ever need him, he’ll be there. He’s grown up a lot in the past few years, living with and supporting his girlfriend Faith has made a huge difference for him, he feels a responsibility towards her that he never had in his life before.

They hunt and operate on the black market to make some extra money. It is illegal there but yet more accepted to hunt. But most importantly they have each other, and despite Damon’s resentment of the way they have to live, he is truly happy with Faith, he knows that he will most likely be trapped in the grim District 9 forever but if he is with Faith, that doesn’t matter for he is with the person that he loves and cares for the most, and would protect her with his life.
