Shale's appearance fits his name. Shale is fairly tall, at 5'10, and strong enough to lift over 100 pounds. He has straight black hair that goes just over his ears and bangs that often obscure his eyes. Those same eyes are an olive green color. His nose is a bit small for his face, but you can't tell unless you really look. His skin is somewhere between tanned and pale year round, no matter what the weather. Shale is a bit bulky, mostly from muscle, though, as the son of Peacekeepers he is far from underfed. The first thing many notice about Shale is the silver earring in his left ear, which he had to get after losing a bet with his best friend Micra. He manages to look unapprochable and good humoured at the same time.Personality:
Shale loves to gamble. He will bet on anything, even the dreaded Hunger Games. Shale is protective of his siblings, friends, and even complete strangers. He stands up for anyone who needs it. Shale can be quiet at times, but he always has something to smile about, even in the bleak District 3. Shale loves the thrill of danger, so he often can be found breaking rules or trying to sneak outside the district. He often keeps his feelings hidden, especially the stronger ones, but they are always exceptionally deep.History:
Shale is one of the most fortunate children in the district, along with his younger siblings, Cristelle, Nick, and Aya. Both of their parents are peacekeepers. Shale cannot remember a time when his family struggled to make ends meet. He’s not terribly popular with his peers for this same reason, but Shale doesn’t seem to mind. Shale would do well in school, but he’s lazy. He likes to read and excels at sports, and his favorite is dodgeball. Shale likes to spend his free time hanging out with his eccentric best friend Micra Platel. He has a job at a local factory, hauling boxes and supplies, though he doesn’t need the money and usually donates it to some of the poorer families in the district.Codeword: muttations
Shale’s view on the Hunger Games changes with the year and the tributes. His mother quietly disapproves of them, having lost a brother to the games as a child. Shale bets on them most years, and contributes to sponsor pools every year. Despite his mother’s despair over the games, Shale has always had an innate desire to volunteer for them. They appeal to his love for danger and instinct to protect others. By volunteering, he knows he could save a life. However, his respect for the wishes of his family and his unwillingness to leave those he cares for behind has kept him from participating in the Games so far.
