Jason Gothard - District 7

Jason is over six feet tall. He is rather thin and scrawny. Fourteen years of malnourishment have stretched his tanned skin tight over his bones. His ribs and shoulderblades protrude grotesquely whenever he takes off his shirt.

His eyes are dark brown, as is his short and messy hair. He has high cheekbones and slightly slanted eyes. These give him a mysterious, almost foreign look.

Jason Gothard is one of the smartest boys in the District. He excels especially when dealing with numbers. School is his favorite time of the day because he thoroughly enjoys learning and the being at school allows him to escape the hard manual labor that he usual has to endure.

Jason is also very quiet. He has no extremely close friends, not because nobody is nice to him, but because he tends to push them away. He prefers to be alone whenever possible and doesn't speak unless absolutely necessary.

Part of this is because Jason has trust issues. Jason cannot entrust his life or his well-being with anyone else. He is constantly in fear of betrayal and abandonment. He especially distrusts adults that say they will help him and that they will be there for him. He just can't believe them.

Jason had a fairly mild upbringing for the first few years of his life. His father owned and operated one of District 7's most successful paper distribution companies so the Gothard family was fairly well off. Jason never went hungry and his parents were kind to him.

Then Jason's life turned upside down when he was twelve years old. Jason's mother committed suicide when she became very ill and lost her sight. Shortly afterward, Mr. Gothard married his paper company's laison with the Capitol. His father moved to the Capitol with his new wife where he said he would be able to operate his company better. Jason was left behind.

This complex past caused Jason's trust issues, for he never heard from his father again. The company went out of business less thana month after Mr. Gothard left. Rumors floated around the district that Mr. Gothard had been shot by Peacekeepers for trying to leave the district. Jason never did find out what really happened.

Every since that year of complete misery, Jason has been fending for himself. He only managed to stay out of the Community Home because they were overflowing with unwanted children already. He got a job at a lumber yard, but had to take inventory because he wasn't strong enough to chop lumber.
