Avalon Selius, District 11

Avalon is short, standing only at 5'4 and is of average build. Some may call her a bit on the thin side, but compared to the rest of the District, she and her family have been fortunate. There are many other families in much worse condition. She doesn't let her small build get in the way. She loves to run, and thanks to this her legs are toned and in shape.
Her hair is a dark reddish blonde. It falls down to her shoulder blades, and is somewhat wavy at the ends. Since Avalon never spends much time on her appearance, she doesn't do much with her hair. It stays down and sometimes appears a bit "windblown". Often she'll be seen brushing it away from her face impatiently. Her eyes are a glassy pale blue with green flecks.
Since she is almost always out in the sun, Avalon is deeply tanned, with freckles dotting her upper arms, shoulders, and face. She looks younger then her age, and often this annoys her. At first glance, her appearance makes her look more like a fourteen year old. Because of this, Avalon is always trying to prove herself, and keeps her head held high at all times. She good-natured, and can almost always be seen with a smile on her face. Most of the time, this is genuine, but even if it isn't, she'll always be putting on a brave face. Only those closest to her know when she is truly upset.

Avalon is a strong girl. She has always been taught to push her problems away and to be brave. However, Ava is someone who would rather talk through something than fight. That is, unless someone threatens her family. She will do or risk anything to keep her family safe.

Avalon is the oldest of four siblings, and has been their protector from the beginning. Because of this, she can sometimes be too serious about things if she gets too caught up in what her family needs. One of her biggest fears is that one of her siblings will get reaped once they're old enough.
She is forever trying to prove herself, not only because of her small stature, but because of her own hidden insecurities that she never lets on about. She covers up her problems by throwing herself into her work, or by helping others. She is an excellent listener. People tend to open up to her because she genuinely wants to know things about them. But when it comes to talking about her own issues, she's clueless. Sometimes she can't even put into words how she feels about things.

Avalon doesn't like to dwell on the past. It is the past, after all, and she'd rather think about the present. She has a willing, playful, friendly nature at almost all times, and is generally well-liked in her community. She makes up songs while doing various activities, and often hums or sings them to herself. She does have a fiery side, however, and does not like to be pushed around or underestimated. Ava usually has a certain levelheadedness when working under pressure, and almost always thinks logically and calmly, even when the odds are stacked against her. The one exception to this is when someone close to her, be it friends or family, are in danger. That is the one time her calm thinking goes out the window and she will do anything to help them, regardless of the consequences, often putting herself and sometimes others in more imminent danger.

Avalon was the first child born to Jade and Mickael Selius, during an especially abundant apple harvest, hence her meaningful name. From a young age, Avalon has always been a curious girl, interested in all areas of life. Because of this, there were several instances of her getting into trouble. By age five, she was diligently climbing trees. At six, she would attempt to wander away, planning on exploring, though she never got far from the watchful eyes of her mother.

At age 7, Avalon's first brother, Lucas, was born. From the time of his birth, Avalon was intrigued. She scarcely left her brother's side during his first few months of life. The same could be said for the rest of her siblings, who came shortly after Lucas.

Avalon befriended a mischievous boy at a young age. Oftentimes they would create dares for each other, wandering further and further from home and causing trouble here and there. But when the two hit 13, suddenly the dares went too far. Avalon was forced to watch as her friend was whipped publicly...for a dare she'd given him. Since then, she's given up breaking the rules and has grown quieter. It was the only reminder she needed.
