Lotus Tears - {District 11}

Lotus Tears is a young Asian boy living in District 11. He has short Black hair reaching to his ears; slightly ruffled but it remains uniform. His bangs pointing towards his right eye, but not covering it. His eyes are an innocent, chocolate brown color with his iris slightly larger than normal, making him look younger than he is. His skin is a light caramel brown due to his ethnicity, and his eyes are slightly squinted. He stands at 5 feet and 6 inches looking healthy for his height and age. He has a slight build, but it isn’t very noticeable.

Lotus usually wears a white shirt with a pair of hand-me-down black pants. He likes to wear it, even through its tattered and full of holes around his knees. This is because it used it belong to his father whom he is attached to. He has a few scars that surround his feet and hands due to him working in the orchard most of the time. The most notable scar he has is a thin white line running across from his writs to his elbow. He got it when he was using a sickle to harvest grain with his father

Although Lotus seems melancholy on the outside, he is actually quite optimistic. When Lotus was young, he used to be bullied by his older siblings. But his two older brothers and one older sister died in an accent in the field. After the shock of losing that part of his family, he has grown a hard shell, blocking the world around him. After a year of help from his parents, he got out of his shell and received a positive outlook on life. This is why if he is hurt emotionally or physically, he does a very good job at covering it up with a smile.

The thing that Lotus loves the most is nature, especially flowers. He likes planting seeds in his garden, which mainly produces flowers. He doesn’t care if people make fun of him for liking flowers a lot because he just says ‘Is it weird to like something that’s beautiful?’ Lotus loves butterflies as well since he believes that they are similar in many ways; they both start out unattractive and quiet, then they transform into something beautiful after leaving their hard shell.

Lotus likes anything that uses his logic skills which involves debating, puzzle solving and problem solving. He also loves reading about plants and flowers, making him able to identify them and remember anything notable about them when he walks into a field of un-encountered flora. He uses this knowledge in school and it would be impressive, if he had any friends to back him up. Since he was verbally abused as a child from several people, he lacks the natural social skills to make friends on his own. The only people that he can maintain a conversation with, without effort are his parents.

Lotus is the last born in the family with three older siblings; two older brothers and one older sister. When his parents weren’t home, Lotus’s older siblings bullied him by shouting at him and getting entertainment at his expense. His parents noticed something was wrong with him so they asked what was wrong. The little boy told what his siblings did to him, thinking that the bulling would stop. But instead, they did worse, and swore that they will do even worse if he told their parents again. Lotus remained quiet and meek up until the tragedy from when he was 7.

When Lotus was 7, he was playing in a field of wildflowers, collecting them for his mother. By the time he got a large arm full, he went back home to his sand-and-clay hut to find her crying, and his dad comforting her when he himself needed the comfort. He gave the arm full of flowers, oblivious to why they are crying. His mother accepted the flowers and hugged her child. The news Lotus received by his father that his three older siblings died in a tracker jacker incident, had to be swallowed down by the young boy before he had the dark epiphany, and finally understood. That day was the most peaceful day for him since he didn’t have contact with his siblings, but now that their gone it turned into the darkest and most painful day of his life and family. The worse thing about this for him was that he can’t ask for an apology from them anymore, creating a huge emotional scar on him that would take years to heal. He regrets that they weren’t closer together as siblings so much, yet he still hates them for what he was put through.

At the funeral just the morning after, he took the flowers he got for his mom and placed them in bouquets for his three siblings. For his oldest brother named Narcissus after the flower, he gave a bouquet with the white and yellow Narcissus standing out. He did the same for his other brother, Larkspur, and for his sister, poppy. He told his mother what they did to him, and his mother comforted him by saying that they would have meant to apologize to him. Lotus knew that they probably wouldn’t, and that his mothers words were giving a false sense of comfort, but he accepted it.

Although Lotus became very depressed, not talking to anyone and not even wanting to go out, the only people that really comforted him were his parents. Another plague brought by his siblings was that they prevented him from making any friends by forcing him not to speak to the other children in his school. He only had his mom and dad to turn to as friends. But when spring came again the next year, he saw the Narcissus, Larkspur and Poppy flowers blooming just outside of his house, it inspired him to continue on with his life. It almost felt like it was a sign of regret from his brothers and sister.

When Lotus snapped back to reality, he realized that his family is supported on what little they already have. He decided to work in the orchards with his mother mainly harvesting the fruit, pruning the leaves and getting rid of any insects. During the harvest season for grains, he decides to help his father. This brought him happiness, working beside his family; the only people he will ever need.

He is named Lotus because he was conceived next to a pond full of lotus flowers. It is also his favourite flower .
