Her lips are sewn shut, because the Capitol thought it would make her more dependent, and therefore more obedient.
Scars are on her body because of the multiple times that her owners thought she was 'misbehaving'. The worst are the ones from when she was blamed for Ella's disappearence (For more info read 'History' )

She is the type of person that will try their best at whatever they do, considering that she's an Avox that could be her best trait or worst trait.
She also is the type of person who is very obiedient and will do whatever someone asks her to. She will never decline, but she doesn't always accept either. She is the type of person who prefers to be neutral but in the end she usually never ends up neutral.
Ever since her father and sister dies she hardly trusts anyone, which usually make it hard for her to generally accept an owner or anyone for that matter of fact. But if you do gain her trust, she is a very loyal friend, that you don't want to lose.
At times when in the market she will always think of the District people, who probably are suffering right about now. She will always think about others before herself, even if they are cruel to her.
Often times she will be found in a libary reading about something, or someone. She loves to read, and also has learned sign language from a book she found in Ella's attic henceforth meaning she talked with Anna through sign language.
She also suffers slight depression because of her loneliness, although it's not really affecting her to badly. After all she has alot of perservirence to go throught what she went through in all of her life.

When she was born her mother died because of child-birth.
When she turned 7, her father decided to steal something from one of the district people. Soon the Peacekeepers found out. When they entered the house they used the same strategy as they use for The Hunger Games, they use the children to get to the person. First her sister was killed infront of her eyes, next her father tried running. She chased after him, once she caught up with her father he tripped, and he told her to keep running. When she turned back her father was being kicked and killed, then she heard the gun shot, she saw the gun. After that she was full in tears, when she finally got to the gates, she forgot about the testing of the electicity flow, she ran right into the electric gate while the electicity was flowing through. The next morning she found herself in a cell, her eyes were wide, wandering around the cell. She found herself that she couldn't speak, much less open her mouth.
All the way until age 11 she was transfered from Capitol house to Capitol house. Until one day she was sent to a girl named Ella, she was in awe when she saw her, they appearently were the same age. She secretly envied Ella, she followed her everywhere except when she told her to stay. She was treated better there then most houses had treated her. Soon Ella and herself had became friends, in actuality Selene seemed to be like a sort of diary to Ella, considering she couldn't say anything. Soon she learned sign language and they could talk together through the signs. After that she actually felt that she finally had found the place she belonged.
At age 14, she watched The Hunger Games with Ella and her family. This was the year that the life she was living in started to slowly fall apart again. Once Ella came back from the visit with the president about a petition to set free a tribute that Ella herself had fell in love with. When Ella saw that boy die, she finally saw what the Capitol was in actuality, and saw what Selene already knew when her family was slaughtered infront of her eyes. After Ella saw the boy die she started to draw away from everybody, hiding her pain from everybody, along with that Selene started worring more and more for the Ella although she never showed it, just like Ella never showed her pain. Although they still talked in secret and Ella's thoughts became more and more sadness and then anger. She could understand what Ella was going through, but she couldn't ever tell Ella that she understood, after what the Capitol did to her. She was evidence of the cruelty of the Capitol, along with the children that were slaughtered in The Hunger Games. But when the doctor came over that day, and said Ella was alright Selene looked at her in the eyes and showed her worry, Selene knew Ella wouldn't snap out of it and the fact that they were threatening Ella in that statement, made her worry even more. After that little meeting Ella started pretending to be her natural self, but Selene knew she was planning something....
Two years later, Selene was still working for Ella until that day....When Ella and Selene went out to tour the old arenas. There was one stop, and that one stop was all Ella needed to run away. Selene had already known that Ella would run away on that trip, since she hated the Capitol for not allowing the male tribute to be set free. At the time Selene wandered around, avoiding any Peacekeepers or anyone at all. She kept her head looking at her feet. Finally when she got to Ella's house, her parents were waiting at the door for them to get back. Then once they saw Ella wasn't with Selene, she was instantly blamed for Ella's disappearence, she had her stuff inspected and then finding the money that Ella oftenly had slipped her, that was all taken away. She was also fired, leaving nothing but her clothes, and back into a cell to become a slave once again. Later that night as a punishment she was whipped, punched, kicked, and allowed them do whatever punishment they wanted to do to her, as if she did it would only be punished by death. She can still remember what the man told her while she was getting whipped, "You are just one milimeter away from getting killed. One more screw up and you are dead." That night she had lost a friend, she was alone once again. The next morning she sat there sulking about what had happened last night, she wept as the other Avoxes stared at her oddly. Even the other Avoxes hated her...
A year and several months later, Selene was hired again this time it was to a little girl with orange hair. She was just hired for the holidays if she did a bad job, as bad enough as it was at that house Selene did an excellent job and was allowed to serve them of coarse she had to act like she was invisable, considering what happened to Ella. This family will never let her go anywhere with their daughter, or leave her alone with their daughter. As sad as this sounds, overall the best way to summerize this girl is a spoiled brat treating others such as Selene like worthless, smelly, awful, ugly, disgusting, useless, and horrifying piles of trash. Still Selene still serves them as best as she can. Although at times she steals stuff from the people of the capitol, and runs off to the forests between the Capitol and District 1, which soon could lead to her death.
