Liliana had been running for a while before she finally noticed the pain. The adrenaline coursing through her veins had kept her from noticing too much in the heat of the moment, but now, she felt each individual scratch. This awful tribute uniform didn’t exactly help matters either. It stuck to the blood where she had been cut and pulled tightly on her skin. She stopped in her tracks for a moment and pulled at the fabric of the jumpsuit, trying to get it off her scratches, but it clung to her body tightly. Finally she just gave up and continued to run.
Every man has a place,
In his heart there's a space,
And the world can't erase his fantasies.
In his heart there's a space,
And the world can't erase his fantasies.
She let out a long breath and pressed on. It seemed like she had been running forever, but the tower didn’t look much closer. It hadn’t seemed nearly this far from back at the Cornucopia. She turned back to focus on her target, and ran hard for several more minutes before stopping. She sat down in the sand, trying to be invisible as she assessed her wounds. She had small gashes on her arm, her leg, and a slash across her chest. These were trivial compared to the injury on her head. She reached up to the back of her head and probed around the wound, flinching as she touched the tender spots. She felt blood tried into her hair. There was a pounding in her head, and she pressed a hand to her temple and stood, trying to ignore the pain. She couldn’t let these miniscule wounds affect her this much, otherwise how would she cope when it got more serious?
Every thought is a dream,
Rushing by in a stream,
Bringing life to the kingdom of doing.
Rushing by in a stream,
Bringing life to the kingdom of doing.
Liliana tried to continue on, but the blood was flowing freely from her wounds. She hopped on one foot as she yanked off one of her shoes and one of those hideous red tube socks. She put the shoe back on over her bare foot, trying to ignore the uncomfortable scratch of sand that kept sneaking into her cleats. She knelt and stretched the sock out on the ground. She held her axe in an awkward position over the sock and, after quite a while, managed to cut it into strips that somewhat resembled bandages. She set her axe on the ground next to her and began to work, some of her first aid training coming back to her. First she needed to clean the wounds. She didn’t have much, but she set about cleaning the sand and dried blood off her wounds as best she could before wrapping them up in the sock-bandages. Liliana grinned as she thought of what she must look like, covered in blood, wounds wrapped in strips of red socks. She probably looked ridiculous, but it didn’t matter right now. She had managed this, which most tributes before her wouldn’t have been able to say.
As you stay for the play,
Fantasy has in store for you,
A glowing light will see you through.
Fantasy has in store for you,
A glowing light will see you through.
Liliana grabbed her axe, but didn’t stand yet. Now that she was out of the Bloodbath, she had more time to think. Which tower should she go to? This decision could determine whether she lived or died, and she needed to think this through carefully. You can’t tell anything about them from here, they all look the same. Just pick one and go with it. She nodded, looking back to the tower that she had originally been running to. It seemed as good a choice as any. Before she could get up and start back towards her goal, she thought that just maybe she should be concerned about the internal monologue that kept telling her what to do. It sounded like her voice, but had she always spoken to herself that way? Don’t think about it too much. I’m helping you aren’t I? Now hurry up, you don’t want any other tributes to catch you out here. True, it wasn’t hurting anything. In fact, it always told her the right way to go, or what she needed to do to survive. She was right, it was probably best not to think about it too much. Liliana scampered to her feet and moved on her way to the tower.
Come to see victory,
In a land called fantasy.
In a land called fantasy.
{Liliana uses first aid. She also leaves the sands.}
