Wren Livendroe sat in her history class, bored as any high schooler would be. She stared at the clock above the shabby whiteboard. It ticked slowly, probably slower than a clock should, but being in District ten, no one cared or bothered to fix it. Tick, tick, tick... The lock moved slowly, but mostly because Wren was thinking so hard about the minute hand moving and the bell finally ringing.Bbrrinnnggg! The instant the bell rang, Wren stood up and pushed through the other kids to get into the hallway as fast as possible.
The hallway was packed with kids now, talking, getting things from their beaten lockers, half of which didn't lock properly, or making their way to the cafeteria. Wren was doing just that, and even though she wasn't in too much of a rush because she didn't;t buy lunch. Couldn't afford it really, and even if she did she wouldn't eat it. Most of the vegetables or fruit was rotten, as the good food was donated to the Capitol, and the meat was just disgusting in general. But, Wren liked her table. She liked sitting alone, and if she didn't get their early enough, the Brats would take it from her. Wren got satisfaction from stealing their table. once she sat down there, it was like disease had spread, and vice vesra if the Brats sat there before her.
Suddenly, though, Wren felt the thud of another body against her. Hard. She looked up with a glare at the boy who'd ran into her (but really, it'd been sort of mutual), and who was delaying her on the way to her table. "Excuse me, you're in my way." Wren said nastily. She couldn't see his face yet, but she could tell the boy was built. "Excuse me!"
