...I take a look around at the empty space - it'll do, I suppose. The exercise is somewhat simple, after all, albeit a tad bit... Unconventional. I glance at the ripped piece of paper in my hand next, reading off the names and glancing at each person as they enter the clearing ("Daemon, Illiana, Jessica, Simone, Lucky - that's a snazzy name, Althea, Tyler and Laedo.") and without a pause, I quickly jump into my short intro to the course. "It's fairly simple," I state. "Today we're going to be learning some basics about offense and defense." Striding over to the center of the clearing, I pick up a pebble that's fairly large in size. In addition, it's got a bunch of sharp corners which would really hurt like a bitch if it hit someone. Hopefully, they'll get the picture.

"What if I were to throw this at you, right now? That would be offensive, right? And you'd all react in some different way, whether that would be ducking, catching it, whatever." I drop the pebble back onto the ground, and walk forwards again, frayed shoes gliding against the grass. "Both offense and defense are a part of combat. You have to have a good offense for a good defense, and vice versa." And now at this point, I'm standing right in front of them, icy-cold eyes locked onto theirs.

"We're going to be practicing this today. Illiana, Tyler, Jessica and Daemon, you'll be the first group. Laedo, Simone, Lucky and Althea, unless if you're absolute morons, I think you'll realize that you all are in the second group, mkay?"

"So here's what we're doing. Two of you will stand at the center of this clearing, and throw rocks at the other two. After a few minutes, we'll switch off. Try not to throw too hard - this is training after all, and we don't have an infirmary.

Welcome to The Uprising's first Combat/Defense training session! In this excersise:

- for two posts, Daemon & Illiana (group 1), as well as Lucky & Althea (group 2), will be throwing stones as their other group members. After all members in the group have each posted twice, you will switch off (the other two will be throwing stones, and vice versa). Then, I will post the concluding thread, and credit will be awarded to those who meet the requirements.

- you need at least four points to gain credit for this activity

- do not powerplay any character - powerplaying will result in punishment >:3

- there is no posting order. Filler posts are allowed, as long as they're filled in completely before the end of the exercise.

- this thread will last for about a month.

- this thread is for Group Two (Laedo, Simone, Lucky and Althea) only. The thread for Group One is located (here)

Althea knew her old self was long gone, surprising even herself by the fact that so much has changed in such a short period of time. But she knew there was no going back now, she had finally chose a path to go through in her life, and she knew that this was the right path. Taking part in the uprising, a way to satisfy her want for revenge against the one thing she hated the most, the Capitol. Everything started that one day she heard the simplest rumor about an uprising forming on the wasteland of district thirteen. She was just casually hiking around her home district, like she always did to make up for the fact that she didn't have any friends, hence no social life to attend to. Anyway, the rumor got a firm grasp of her ears, so she had no choice but to listen and comprehend what the group of strangers were talking about. What she heard surprised her and then somehow made her feel sorry for how desperate people got, making up such a horrible lie just to feel as if someone had their back on this unspoken hatred against the Capitol.

Nobody could really blame Althea for not trusting this rumor, in fact, generally, nobody at all could have been blamed for not believing on such a thing. The chances were so microscopic that a rebellion was starting against the strongest power she ever knew, but she couldn't just disregard the fact that no matter how little or how slim the chances were, she could actually do something to step up against the Capitol. She had hated them ever since she could remember and throughout her life, her hatred of the Capitol had increased even more as she lived being a witness of how terribly people can get. Each blood shed in the Hunger Games, each kid's dreams and hopes destroyed, not to mention the ones that love them. Althea never had first-hand experience of losing a loved on to the Capitol, but she just couldn't bare to imagine is her brother, or any of her loved ones were took away by the Capitol.

Althea was always so naive when it comes to the politics. Her whole existence revolved around solid facts, growing up in the district of science. She lives in knowledge, and dies a little without it. She doesn't get knowledge about the Capitol, or Panem in general. The so called knowledge provided was too biased for her to consider it accurate. District thirteen for example, besides the fact it being blown to bits, she knows so little about it. This added to the fact that she needed to dig deeper into this whole uprising thing, and so she did. Days, weeks, and even months had a gone by and her knowledge is building up little by little until finally she could at least safely hypothesize that it was possible for an uprising, but like always time was one strong force. She investigated and gathered information about everything she needed to know concerning the uprising.

Of course Althea had to be careful, she and her family could fall into so much trouble if she was caught trying to gather information about the rebellion, and that's the last thing she wanted. She has been so preoccupied of the uprising that she lost concentration for the rest of her life. Her grades went down, not so low, but she was an honor student so she was expected highly of, even her physical self was affected. She had gotten even more thinner, her bones got even more prominent, and she looked terrible, but she knew this had to stop. She took a little break from the uprising to fix herself up, she would need the strength if she wanted to travel all the way to thirteen, but she needed even more strength to attempt crossing the electrified fence that could end her so quickly. She rested and took care of herself as promised. Now the time came for the first attempt to leave the district's border.

Crossing the fence was tough. It took Althea months just to accurately pin point the weak spots of the fence, and even that wasn't enough. That's when she knew she couldn't cross the fence, but she devised another plan to leave the district. She had a long weekend that day so that was the perfect time for her to do the feat. She planned to hitch a ride to one of the trains that went out of the district to send medical supplies and such to the Capitol, then when they needed to refuel she would take off, easier said than done. She had to know where it stopped for fuel so she could travel to thirteen and back to six if she needed to. She finally had the guts to do it but failed. She ended up laying inside a cart of medical equipments for a whole day before she got back to district six. It took her weeks before she was able to attempt it once again and this time successful, she had reached district thirteen with a fair amount of troubles and ordeals, but nonetheless she was now officially part of the uprising.

Most of the other up-risers, as Althea was informed, were teenagers her age, probably even less. She was inducted a rebel, how proud her parents will be. In due time, she had to trek back to district six, but this time she was aided by fellow up-risers. She was informed of the various routes that would make her travel back more efficient, everything was going well. Months had passed and she was living her old life once again before her next meeting at thirteen for her official training. To be honest, she was scared as hell, she was in no military condition, other up-risers could easily shank her. She had no time to train anyway, she needed to make up her school for she was about to miss at least a week. Luckily she had a one-week break from school meant for her hospital internships. Plus her parents are off to another district for reasons she didn't know. Her brother hasn't been going home lately, she doesn't really want to go into that, so basically she's all set for her training.

Althea finalized everything she needed back at six. One of the benefits of being socially inept is that no one would really notice you were gone, and that was the case with her. She did her routine on the train, being as careful and collected as possible for a seventeen-year-old girl that was trying to rebel against such a superpower. She finally reached district thirteen for her training and the woman, Jean Miles, as she could remember. A portion of the up-risers stood around her. So overall she counted at least nine people in the room. She stood there, listening intently to Jean. She absorbed as much as she could without getting to excited. I mean, holy shit we're rebelling... Anyway Althea got to her group, they were evenly split into four people and she was the one of the first, along with this person, Lucky, to throw the pebble. She never really was a thrower, at last she never thought she was a thrower, in fact she didn't think of herself as an offense person, but this was one of those times to just suck it in right?

"Tell me when you're ready", she stated in a quiet, but firm voice. Not really directing it to anyone, she guessed she would throw to whoever responded.

"Lisbeth told me there's a rumor going around that they survived all that warfare. They live in the ruins! Imagine that!" This was all it took. A hushed conversation between two of the orderlies here in the orphanage, and I was upstairs packing the few belongings I could honestly call mine. For all I know, it could be useless old woman gossip. Yet it was a promise of freedom. Even camping in the wild in search of the so-called "District Thirteen" sounded better than continuing to rot away in this dusty mansion, where we all wait in disdain for an enthusiastic couple to whisk us away. Happily ever afters created in the depths of our steadfast imaginations. Happily ever afters that will never come true for the majority of us. Time to get out.

Two tee-shirts, a second pair of pants, socks, and a pair of shoes. Hastily removing them from my dresser into a tiny backpack I found in the main supply closet, along with a few packages of dried meat and a can of mixed vegetables. Stuffing the necessities under my bed, I wait until after supper, when we kids are forced to do the chores the orderlies don't feel like doing, to make a dash for the door. It isn't very hard. The three orderlies assigned to the living room — where I've been told to dust the mantel and sweep the floors — have turned on the dusty television set for tonight's airing of The Hunger Games, backs turned both to me and the exit. They call for all the orphans to either get in their rooms and turn on their TV, or gather around the larger one down here. While kids pour in, I quietly set down the broken broom I've been working with, and creep cautiously toward the door. "Simone? Simone! What are you doing?" Frantic, I scramble the remaining few steps. Scooping up the backpack and flinging it over my shoulder, I push my way through the cracked door, and gasp.

Already shivering, my limbs squeal in protest as I set them in motion. I can hear the orderlies running through the orphanage behind me, probably calling for Peacekeepers and watchdogs to come and bring me back home. Not today. The brittle chill bites through the layers of clothes I put on before emerging from my room, and the fierce wind brings hot tears to my eyes. I let them spill over, if only for the trace of warmth they leave on my cheeks. Or is it because I'm afraid? Do I really want to leave District Twelve? Leave the only home I've ever known forever? I mull it over for a bit, yet I know how this mental debate will end if I let it progress. I'll somehow talk myself into walking back to the orphanage, apologizing to the hateful orderlies and stern Peacekeepers, and continue on with that retched life in sorrow. Yes, I am ready for this. Fuck the orphanage. Fuck the orderlies. Fuck District Twelve!

"Simone! Watch your mouth!" The sudden presence of the three ~~imaginary~~ friends I've acquired over the years surprises me. They haven't made themselves known in a while now. By assumption, they only show up when they sense my distress, my confusion. This certainly is a good time. "Shush Lilliana. You know just as good as I that I'm not a kid anymore. I can talk however I want! Now go away!" Buck sneers, a nasty expression on his gentle face. "Think you're too old for us now, huh Simone? Think you can just leave District Twelve and all of your problems will disappear? Doesn't work like that, bud. And you know damned good and well there probably isn't anything out there. Maybe you need to grow a little bigger in the britches before you try running away, you freaking idiot!" I only shake my head and pick up the pace, the fence drawing nearer. "Simone, listen to me. I don't think you're ready for something this big yet. You're barely surviving in a place filled with supplies because of depression and loneliness. Do you think the woods are going to be any different? You will die Simone!" "Shut up!"

All but flinging myself onto the fence — not even bothering to check if the damned thing was electrocuted; luckily it wasn't — fingers aching to pull myself higher, the sounds of barking and howling drowning out any protests from Lilliana and Buck. They had let loose the dogs. Were the Peacekeepers really going to let the mutts eat him? Reaching the top, he cautiously swung over the spirals of barbed wire at the top. Catching himself several times on the spiky points, blood began to run, covering one of his arms and both of his legs. Grunting and cursing all the while, he finally made it to the other side, dropping in exasperation, and turning to look back at the district. It seemed to gleam in comparison to the dark woods, the flashlights of Peacekeepers wavering wildly as they ran, most likely not assuming that a young boy such as Simone wouldn't want to brave a climb up a fence and a trek through the dark and scary woods. They're wrong. And so the boy turned and began to walk, sparing several looks behind him, losing sight of his home every step of the way.

The sound of my name jarred me from a particularly gruesome daydream. I had been tortured and mercifully killed by Peacekeepers of my district after they found me at the rebel camp in District Thirteen. My imagination was a gateway for paranoia and anxiety, where they could take hold of the images flooding through my head and turn them dark and dangerous. I make a mental note to focus more on exercise instructions instead of dallying with torturous thoughts. Already the teenagers gathered began to split into groups. Glancing around, I spotted the three that had been paired with my name. Laedo, Lucky and Althea. Picking myself through the small crowd, I reluctantly approached the bigger kids, glancing up at their firm, matured faces. Today was going to suck.

The girl, Althea branched off, staring at us in expectancy. I unwillingly backed up a few steps, nerves already taking hold. She has to throw rocks at me? Shit! Clearing my throat, I try to sound as imposing as possible. "Alright! Bring it on!" I fail. Miserably.
