Can Everything Be Silent When You Can't Hear?
Bastet Flail
Actions : Sign Language : Spoken Words
Bastet scratched the corner of her eye as she left her science classroom, and quickly stepped aside as a blind boy scanned the hallways with a seeing stick. Those hurt when you're hit repeatedly in the ankles... she thought as she pronounced the word sorry slowly as he passed by. Running a hand through her hair, she met her deaf friend Jade who just happened to be getting back from the horrible math class next door. Signing about how their math teacher was almost literally the wicked witch of the west, they got odd looks as they walked over to the hearing school that Jade's sister went to. What's so abnormal about being deaf? Jeeze, it's the same people every day...
Jade saw people pour out of the hearing school, signaling the end of the day. Picking herself up, she walked to the school to take away her sister and go home. Waving her hand to signify a momentary goodbye, Bastet stood near the door of the school, waiting for Jade to come out so she could walk home with the black-haired deaf girl. Looking around the scene, she noticed people doing hand-gestures, an average thing for some hearing people to do. Yea, I know, hearing people like to use their hands to talk too, but do they have to move them like that? That old man over there is signing the world chocolate, for heavens sake.
Rolling her eyes as the men, she leaned next to the doors of the school, looking around at all of the middle schoolers and high schoolers alike staring at her with a hint of discomfort. Yes, they knew she was the friend of Jade, the deaf girl with the hearing sister that went to the school, it wasn't a whole big deal, or something totally new. It was the same deaf girl who leered next to the school doors every day of the school year, just waiting for her deaf friend and hearing sister to walk home with her.
Suddenly, two girls - her age, maybe - gathered around her, looking at her with huge cocky smiles. Tapping her on the shoulder, she raises her eyebrow, indicating that they may speak. They say a bunch of words that she kind of catches. "Are [unknown words] stupid [unknown word] or can you understand me?" She rolls her eyes and looks away angrily, thinking about not punching their faces in. Then they started wiggling their hands in crazy manners, making Bastet turn away.
As the deaf girl turns away, the hearing pair pull her back, knocking her to the concrete ground. Bastet's eyes widen, her mouth open slightly and her eyes bulging out of her head. What did they just do? Did they even just try to do this to me? Looking at them with a death glare as they laughed at her, she sat on the floor, thinking about all the things she could do to them. Sabotaged electricity? No, I've done that before. What about turning all of their furniture upside down? Her thoughts of revenge were disrupted as another person entered the picture.
