Name: Aronia Noelle
Age: Twelve
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 11
Appearance:
The chokeberries (Aronia) are two to three species of deciduous shrubs in the family Rosaceae, native to eastern North America. They are most commonly found in wet woods and swamps. Chokeberries are cultivated as ornamental plants and also because they are very high in antioxidant pigment compounds, like anthocyanins. The name "chokeberry" comes from the astringency of the fruits which are inedible when raw.
Aronia Noelle was named for the 'chokeberry', a sweet berry that is only edible when cooked. As citizens of District Eleven are not allowed surnames, she was given a middle name - Noelle as she was born on Christmas Eve.
Aronia, born in mid-winter, was born prematurely, and her mother died giving birth to her un-aided in the freezing cold. She was a sweet child, growing up under her very protective brothers and sisters. She was the youngest of ten, yet they got along okay on their meagre rations - keeping a low profile under the watchful eyes of the peacekeepers and working long hours. It was only the winter in which Aronia turned six that everything changed. That was the year that a terrible winter ruined all of the crops, and her father and eldest siblings sacrificed their rations for her and the younger ones. It was also the year of the 53rd Hunger Games, the ones in which her favorite brother was reaped and killed. She lost four family members that year. Aronia never spoke again.
The family still live together in their feeble house of wood, caring for each other. The eldest of them was eighteen the year that the winter was harshest, and they make do.
Haunted by nightmares, the quiet girl is liked by all that take the time to know her, although many think her strange. Her siblings, of course, are incredibly protective of her. In general they do not resent her for the death of their mother - the families hardships where all out of their control.
As a rule, the large family speak nothing against the Capitol and do exactly what they are told, as they are too afraid to do anything but conform. Each tired out from work when they finally reach the small shack they share, the family all sleep together, curled up on a battered mattress. They each love each other dearly, as they were all raised with team spirit and selflessness.[/blockquote]Codeword: Odair

Appearance:
It is hard to imagine what hunger does to a person unless you yourself have experienced famine. The signs come slowly in District Eleven - where after but a year of bad soil or snow the people begin to starve. Aronia's small body is riddled with signs of the harsh winter - her face slender, her bones prominent. Her dirty blonde hair is brittle and unhealthy, her skin dry and sore. She no longer feels the hunger - going a couple of days with no food whatsoever is not uncommon in the poor parts of the District. Her muscles are slowly wasting away, and although she is able to carry her own body weight the child is unable to carry anything truly heavy.[/blockquote]Personality:
Her eyes are wide-set and dark, and her skin is tanned. Aronia's black hair is thick and curly, although she often braids it to keep it out of her eyes when working in the fields. As a petite girl of little height, Aronia is often climbing up into the branches of trees to fetch fruits for the Capitol. Her hands are swift and small, and she wears whatever she can.
Aronia is a sweet child, who is bright and positive. Often far too trusting, she is positive and always smiling. It is hard not to like Aronia, for she is generous and caring. Described repeatedly by those around her as 'bubbly', the girl is generally fair and loyal. Astoria is not easily led astray, for she is fiercely protective of those she loves.[/blockquote]History:
The child is the determined type, who would do anything for those she loves. As the youngest in a large family, and mute, she is often cared for by her elder siblings.
Never speaking yet always listening, Aronia has a startlingly way of seeing the world. She communicates to her family through sign language, however is forced to find other ways of communication with strangers. She has taken to carrying with her a small sketchbook and pencil and drawing complex and elaborate drawings to get her point across. She has a wide range of facial expressions which are easy to read, however sometimes goes into her shell in stressful situations.
Most of the time she is trusting and compassionate, as well as hardworking, if a little naive. Aronia enjoys reading, and despite being very poor she holds onto two books telling of plants and trees, handed down to her from her great-grandmother. As her District focuses on agriculture, these books come in handy for her and her family in work.
Aronia works incredibly hard, picking fruits from the highest branches in the orchard. For this she gets little reward, aside from the fact that she manages to get a bite more to eat for herself and her family. She values positivity and looks down on people who are ungrateful or careless.
