Kiara had spent the night in the sand outside the tower that contained the bog she'd gotten water from, clutching her backpack containing precious items close to her chest, as if that would protect it from the ravenous hands of other tributes. Yes, she still hadn't found food, and the pang of hunger in her stomach was growing worse and worse, but she'd gotten water, and that was the most important thing. Water would keep her alive, while food she could last a while without.
Morning dawned. As she stirred and opened her eyes, Kiara realized that sand actually served as a pretty comfortable bed - far more comfortable than a ragged tree branch, to say the least, though that would definitely have been a safer place to stay the night. But she was getting good, long rest here, which was important in the Games; tributes in other arenas hadn't had that luxury. If she could get over the fact that at any moment a tribute could spot her black-jumpsuited form nestled in the deep red sand and come and split her head open with an axe, then she actually had it pretty good.
Aware of how important it was to keep moving, the small tribute didn't waste a moment before packing up, kicking the sand around with her foot so that it wouldn't look like she'd stayed there, and heading on her way, back to the entrance of the tower she'd camped beside to see what sort of anomaly was housed in there today. Cautiously she peered through the cloudy glass, and spotted what she was looking for immediately. Trees. Live trees! Not those rotted ones she'd seen in a tower after the Bloodbath, but real, green trees. Something about them looked slightly different than any kind of tree she'd ever seen before, though, so curiously she took a few steps though the archway to investigate.
Dense, thick heat overcame her immediately; the temperature rose about ten or fifteen degrees as she crossed the threshold of the tower, and humidity had risen exponentially as well; back in District Eleven the air was mostly dry, even though it was pretty hot, so the sixteen-year-old was definitely not used to this. She quickly braided back her long, thick dark hair to get it off of her neck - just for a little bit of relief - before curiously approaching some sort of fern plant on the ground to see if she could figure out what the hell it was. It was very leafy and a peculiar shade of green; she'd never seen anything like it before. What was going on? Where was she?
Stepping softly so her cleats wouldn't crunch the leaves and twigs beneath her, Kiara moved slowly further into this strange jungle, her head on a constant swivel so she could observe her surroundings as well as keep watch for any hidden tributes - or worse- who might be waiting to ambush her. This place gave her an unshakable sense of suspense; watch, I'm going to be jumped by some sort of beast any second - Suddenly as if on cue the sound of a colossal roar reached her ears, and the teenager swung around to see something she never once thought she'd see. Massive and ominous behind her stood the most horrifying creature she'd ever laid eyes on. Its body was completely covered in plates of armor - almost like thick scales - and it had a tail clustered on which were lethal looking spikes. It had to be at least fifteen feet long from head to tail. Kiara had only one thought in her mind as she reflexively lashed out with her hatchet.Dinosaur.
