I will have to pull my heart away
Cause if I never leave I'll ruin yesterday

I'm moving the boxes into the hall
I stop when I hear a drumbeat call
The difference between Ella and other Career's were slim. She appeared the part, and she sure as hell could fight it. There was no question she belonged here. She had worked hard from the beginning of her training, many, many, years ago. And she was not falling behind. Ben, her guardian, was proud. He wouldn't admit it, for some sort of pride thing, but Ella knew that he was pleased. Growing up with a man who never smiled, you knew that if you managed to get him to show some teeth, it was an accomplishment. She was growing up with younger siblings, others who were like her, training to be a tribute. They weren't blood related, and she didn't think bonding with them would do much good. They were just sort of there. They were there at the dinner table, and they were there enough for Ella to remember their names. That was as close as the bond between them was. Ella knew that Ben was more pleased with her than the others, but maybe he was biased. She was his first adoptive child, and of course his first child that he had trained from scratch. She was his, and she knew he was proud.
The time was ticking down for how much time she had left to train. Ben knew that, and the training had jumped in intensity. Ella was prepared, and braced herself for the strain. It would be challenging, and often times she might feel like she couldn't do it, but knowing that she was fighting for something, made it all worth it. It was the Games! She would be famous, and she would be strong. You wouldn't catch her going in without a clue of what to do. She was ready for this chance, just like she was ready for this training day.
"Dive harder!" His instructions broke Ella's day dream trance. Here she was, throwing herself onto the floor trying to dodge a spear thrown by none other than Ben. Ella grunted as she quickly sprang up from off the ground and grabbed a knife she had on her belt, and threw it directly at the dumby in front of her. It was a direct hit. "Excellent." Her mentor appeared from behind a shield used to protect from the blows enforced upon the dumbies beside him. Ella straightened up at his praise. They were rare, but she knew that her progress had been improving tremendously. She nodded in approval at him. "You may take a break." Ella nodded once more and left the practice arena quickly. She had to doge flying weapons and quickly fling her way through the course in order to avoid all the other's training. She threw an interested look at some of the boys. She couldn't help it. She was sixteen for goodness sake. She was going to look. Especially when they were as fierce and strong as they appeared.
She caught the eye of one of the boys she often talked to, and he smiled at her before throwing a spear with extra strength. She rolled her eyes with a teasing laugh."Stop showing off!" She called loudly enough for him to hear. He flashed her a smile before turning around. That was her cue to exit the arena before anything got her. When she was out of the danger zone, she poured herself a cup of ice water and began drinking.
And I'll know that nobody, nobody's listening
And that's easy for me and it's better for the soul
And it's better for you and it's better for all ”
