Am I Living It Right?
Why Georgia, Why?

" I am driving up 85 in the
kind of morning that lasts all afternoon
just stuck inside the gloom
This day had been as follows. Trey got up, worked on the farm in the waking hours of dawn, and rode off to school on his gelding, Roan. At the end of the day, he was greeted outside the school grounds by his faithful dog Sparky, who had probably been waiting around for him all day at home and had gotten bored, so he set off to find his master. He was a silly mutt, but Trey loved him for it. Just as he had a special place in his heart for his gelding.
It had been a long day. Trey wasn't exactly looking forward to the rest of the week, seeming as it was Monday, but the idea of it being almost the end of this day brought him through the rest of his errands that he needed to run. He stopped in the market on his way home from school so he could pick up the things his parents needed from him. He picked up some vegetables with the money they had given him for family food, and he also picked up some meat for the dog and ordered some more hay bales for the horses. After about a half hour, he was already done. But as he was passing by through the various shops, his eye caught on a very shiny piece of metal. He quickly moved over to it and saw that it was in fact a beautiful necklace. Smiling, he picked it up and turned it over. It was perfect. Checking his pockets, he knew that he could afford this necklace. He turned to the vendor and smiled. "How about this much for this?" He showed him the coins he had with a winning expression on his face. The vendor stared blankly at the pile before blinking up to look at Trey.
"No. Not acceptable for this."
His lack of consideration for the farmer boy pissed him off.
What the hell was this supposed to be? Trey slammed his earnings on the counter, clearly irritated with the shop keeper who stood on the other side. "What do you mean you don't think that's acceptable?!" He raged. He had worked hard in order to make the money he held in his right hand. He had nearly collapsed from the stress from all the work. All he wanted to do was buy a necklace for his mother's birthday. He had offered a beyond reasonable price, and now here this lunatic was trying to tell him no? Trey snarled. This wouldn't settle. "Look, keep your stupid necklace. I'm moving on." He turned eruptly and stalked away, his dog following close behind. Sparky liked to accompany Trey on his trips to the market.
"Wait!"
Trey stopped and turned around. He faced the shop keeper without a trace of a smile on his lips. His patience was run out, and frankly, the only thing that was keeping him here was the beauty of the necklace. He wanted to give that to his mother as her gift more than anything, and the disappointment at the thought of not being able to afford it killed him inside. He had worked this entire season just to be able to afford something nice. That was all he asked. Buy the necklace from the stupid vendor and get on with his life. "What?" He snapped.
"Come back!" Hesitantly, Trey slowly moved back to the vendor's shop. Sparky slowly trotted behind him, making sure not to pass his master's feet. His head was bent low and he looked up at the men with obvious discomfort. He wasn't much of a dog for conflict. Trey took a deep breath as the vendor continued. "I changed my mind. I accept your price. Let me just wrap this up for you." Trey rolled his eyes. Of course it was an acceptable price. Trey was well aware of that, this man just wanted to get more money out of him, something which really aggravated Trey when he already had to work so hard just to make this much. He took a deep breath and handed the man his money in exchange for the wrapped up gift. Trey pursed his lips at the man in thanks and turned around. He was done with this market crap. Looking towards the edge of the market square, he saw Roan grazing casually on the grass. He smiled and couldn't help but feel the happiness in him returning. He had received the most wondrous present for his mother, and his favorite spirits were right beside him. He turned to his dog and gave him a scratch between the ears. "Alright, let's get this sucker home." He smiled mischievously and launched himself on top of Roan's back. He grabbed hold of the reins and kicked him into a canter. They three of them raced off into the meadows surrounding the meadow before Trey couldn't help but slide off of his house and playfully chase his gelding and dog. He strongly valued his time with his animals, and any chance he could get to just mess around with them and have fun was a chance he wouldn't miss. Sparky yipped and barked as his herding instincts over took him and he spun around Trey while his human friend chased after him. Roan whinnied in order to get Trey's attention on him, and when Trey turned to look, Roan tossed his head and shot away into the tall grassy meadow. Trey rolled his eyes. "I can't out run you, you know!" He called after the paint gelding. Roan came trotting back, snorting the entire way. Trey laughed and placed his hand on his head. Roan breathed sweet air onto Trey and he couldn't help but close his eyes and try and live this moment for as long as possible.
