Tears from the sky {Briknope and Mylee}

Loki, like the little adventurer he was, tugged harder at the leather leash that was within Anubis's firm grasp. Why the miniature dachshund actually wanted to be outside in such ungodly weather, with little specs of white trailing down the sky, Anubis didn't know. Why the dog preferred to be at the beach, he didn't know. The reason why he himself liked being there didn't exactly register with him either. Maybe it was part of the fact that District 4 is usually so warm that he just needed to literally chill before the heat took District 4 down again.

The beach was so calming, especially at the dead of night. Waves would pick up their pace and create huge towers of water that would crash down and sweep the beach before doing it all over again. The sounds were like the serenade of District 4; anywhere you went within the District, you could always hear the soft crunch of waves that hit the sand on a daily basis. Almost everybody loved them; loved being in them, loved being on them, loved being around them, and Anubis and Loki were no exceptions.

While Anubis was thinking about the cold, the ocean, and everything else, he felt a slight tug at the leash in his hand. Anubis didn't notice and slightly let loose his grip of the leash, letting the dog run free. Shock of himself actually letting go of the leash spiraled through him. As he watched the little dog walk - not run away as he anticipated - down the lining of the waves, he blew out a foggy breath. Well, he isn't too fast, so if he does run I can catch him again. Anubis let Loki sniff everything that was in his way, but tried to kick seaweed out of the way for fear of the dog getting his feet tied up like he did the other day.

Suddenly, Loki stopped and looked around him for a moment. Anubis was slightly confused; Loki almost never stopped to observe anything unless it was something that interested him. Usually such observations entailed Loki observing the weather, the waves, or people. Anubis didn't know if there were any other people around him for Loki to observe, so for the moment, he didn't exactly take people into consideration. The weather around them was pretty much constant, so the only thing left was the waves, but the little dog wasn't looking at the waves. Anubis rolled his eyes with a smile on his face and bent down to take the leash.

Suddenly, as quick as Lightning comes down from the sky and hits the earth, the little dog started full speed at something. Anubis followed him for awhile, wondering what the little creature have taken so much interest in. Probably a rock or something, he joked to himself. As soon as he got to a pile of rocks, he found his dog and a figure. So that's what Loki must be interested in so much. A person. Loki tried to wiggle his way onto the stranger's lap.

Approaching the person, which had the outline of a girl, he snatched up the little dog with a smile and was about to apologize, until he realized that he heard sobs coming from her. Anubis set Loki back on the ground and knelt down to her level and was surprised at what he saw. Bruises, purple and blue and of all sizes evily decorated her body. Anubis's eyes widened as he recognized this and then placed a hand on her shoulder, concern taking possessiveness with his slightly deep voice. "Oh my god, are-are you ok? Do you need help? What happened?"

A little smile crossed Anubis’s face after she brought a tiny hand to her chin and then moved it away, and then marginally blushed after she laid her head down on his shoulder. That was probably his first real encounter with a girl like that; holding her like the damsel in distress as she laid her head on his shoulder. He felt slightly uncomfortable with her doing this, for reasons he will soon rant about, don’t worry but didn’t object or shrug his shoulder to tell her to get the hell off. How could he be so cold-hearted and uncaring, when here she is, dark patches that represented bruises decorating her body like badges of survival? And who the hell knows what she has been through already? She could have been battered up against the coral that was hidden in the waves, or it could have possibly been the work of human hands. But with her hearing gone, and him not knowing the beautiful language that didn’t take words, he couldn’t exactly ask her what happened to her. Well, she could understand him, as pretty much all deaf people have the ability to look at lip movements and decode what they meant. But that still didn’t fix the problem of his non-understanding of her. If we are gonna talk, what we really need is a piece of paper and a pencil. And I dunno who is nearby and who might have one.

Soon after the little deaf girl is lifted into his arms, the boy that was with them found a sailor, maybe Anubis’s age, who looked up from the ropes in his hands. The sailor’s eyes glimpsed over the battered deaf girl, the boy with the dog, and the boy with urgency in his voice. If Anubis was to take a guess at what the sailor was thinking at that moment, he was probably thinking What the hell happened to them? He empathized with his thoughts, and he guessed that would probably be his reaction also. How often do you see a battered girl being cradled by a gay guy while a little boy is next to them and watches? Probably not too often. “Uh… you guys need help? I’ll get her a blanket-“ Before he could walk off of the pier and back onto the boat to get what they needed, Anubis stopped him and said “And a notebook and pencil, please. She’s deaf. I don’t know sign language.”

After the words left his pale lips, the young sailor stepped back onto his boat to go below deck and get the stuff she needed. As the young sailor left them in the freezing air, he got down on one knee with the deaf girl still in his arms, and he gently laid her out on the wooden ground. Anubis wasn’t sure if he was helping or not, but at the time, he supposed that it was the right thing to do. It was just instinct; almost like when you see a crying girl, the natural thing to do is go over to her and ask her what was wrong with her. After his arms gave way to her weight and she lay down on the cold wood, he sat down next to her and did probably one of the most foreign things he had ever done before. His hand ran through her hair and caressed her face, whilst mumbling that everything would be okay, but he didn’t know exactly how “ok” would work out for her.

As for the hand that gently touched her bruised face, he had no idea what came over him. Like he thought before, it was the instinct to protect her, and he knew it was the human thing to do, but to him it felt wrong. Girls were like a different species to him, and he wouldn’t ever dream of touching one in the way he touched her. Other boys, however, were a totally different story to him. He felt more… attracted to them, and didn’t exactly have any attraction towards the people of the opposite gender. And, to be honest, it felt very wrong that he was touching a woman’s face like that. It was the same thing with the way the deaf girl had placed her head exhaustedly against his shoulder; it felt wrong, and he felt he shouldn’t have allowed her to do it, but his desire to care for her outweighed the importance of keeping his sexuality going in one direction.

Before he could continue his train of thought and go deeper into his thought process, the young sailor boy came back, thick blanket and black journal and pencil in hand. Anubis handed the blanket and journal to the kid, hoping that he would spread the blanket over her and ask her what happened. He was scared to do so himself, because he could hardly bear the thought of what might have happened to her that might have happened to her, what with the large bruises covering her like a natural skin color. He couldn’t bear the thought that what happened to her pale skin might have been caused by human hands. What if she is abused only because she is different? Only because she lacks the ability to pick up sound that the world gives us? And if that’s that case, then why must this world be so cruel to lovely girls like her? Only because they are different? Anubis knew the world was messed up. He knew it wasn’t too great of a place. He knew that people made fun of other people for the littlest things. But to beat the hell out of someone because of a difference that keeps them apart from others? It was a sickening thought, and he didn’t really want to realize how bad the world was. So with lighter, more careful strokes, he ran a hand through her now icy hair, he hoped that the kid would do it for him.
