That was it. The minute that her aunt demanded that Glaucia attend school, she had wondered what in the hell was wrong with her family. First off, her Mother. Her Mother, of all people, had decided to send her own daughter to district four. Her father, she was quite sure she had no partaking in this child abuse that was living in the fishing district, especially when her mother knew about her detest of eating fish. It'd been a messy incident when she was a young child, in which involved a very expensive party dress with all the pink tulle and white deerskin boots to match; drinking too much soda and eating too much fried cod at a particular birthday party and once the pony rides were brought out, you can assume that the dress and boots ended up soiled. She'd hated orange soda and any kind of fish ever since, probably due to the fact tha she adored the dress. And that it was probably her last memory from her eighth birthday party, since she was pretty sure she passed out and woke up the next morning feeling cranky. Even if it was nine years ago, it was still one of those traumatizing childhood memories that just scarred you for life.
Which was why as she was standing in the mirror before the school had started, she smelled the burning flesh of the fish and the promise of "Fish Bacon!" and she sighed. She hated it here. Well, she didn't mind being able to go down to the beach and go swimming on occasion, or the fact that her hair was becoming more healthy because she wasn't dying it daily as she'd done in the capitol, more so monthly, but living here wasn't something she particularly liked. Her hair was healthier, but her skin didn't like the salt in the air, so small zits had began to line her cheekbones, which was something that even her capitol-quality concealer couldn't completely cloak. It was something that wasn't going to get her anywhere in life, but it made her feel better that it was more-so hidden. She looked at the thing she'd chosen for her first day of attending the school in the fourth district, something that she could call worthy of the capitol. Just to knock those district four kids out with a feather. A dark, soft cotton tank top and a darker leather cheerleader-style skirt belted by a red piece of leather. It matched her hair, which as usual, was straightened until it became even more unhealthy than usual... And she looked into the mirror with a perfectly content expression.
Walking down the stairs, she carefully walked around the throngs of small toys that her aunt had supplied for her toddler-aged children. The house wasn't huge, nor was her aunt and uncle extraordinarily wealthy people. They were probably middle-class for district four, with three children... And then they'd taken in Glaucia and Bambi, and didn't seem to care or at least didn't express it when Bambi went missing. Sure, her aunt was curious, but when Glaucia told her she'd gone into the woods and never came back... She really didn't seem to care. It was one of those weird traits about her aunt, she was so laid back almost to the point of utter laziness. An admirable quality, but not something that Glaucia was used to... Everything in the Capitol had been so micromanaged, down to the food she'd eaten for breakfast every morning. In the Capitol, it had been a cranberry muffin and a vanilla and mango flavored protein shake served at 9:07 in the morning, when her alarm clock went off. In district four, though.... There was a limp piece of fried cod from the night previous laying on a plate on the counter from anywhere from 7:00 in the morning to whenever her Aunt decided it was cold enough to throw away because Glaucia hadn't eaten it.
Walking out of the door, her strides seemingly perfect in her Capitol-given shoes (Her Mother shipped care packages every month when she remembered and usually included the newest and greatest in capitol footwear. Usually, Glaucia didn't have a use for it, but she'd figured if she wanted to be the District Four Darling, she'd have to dress for the occasion, and had thrown on the newest pair of high heels straight from the capitol) from years of practice, she tried to manage walking on the uneven sidewalk of the district. It was cobblestone, and honestly some of the most difficult stuff to trapeze through. Slowly clicking through the district streets, she finally reached the institute that she called District Four's center for people who trained to be careers but were the least likely of the career districts to win the games. Which basically meant they were the worst of the best. It was a respectable position, sure, but in Glaucia's eyes, they all seemed a little bit inferior to the rest of the careers.
As she lazily walked up the steps into the school, she sighed. Bring on district four and it's sucky academic system.
