~Osage Reddenbok
To anyone but Osage, and maybe her brother, her peculiar behavior made no sense. Today, she found herself rearranging rocks on the outskirts of the district; the big one by the tree, the little ones in a pile by the leaves, the medium one by the big one. Over and over again, she picked her favorites and placed them strategically around the little clearing, wandering around in her brother's oversized coat, barefoot, chewing on her thumb nail. Every few seconds, she'd change her mind and rearrange them again, picking a completely new layout for her little rock garden. She's skipped school, as usual, to completely absorb herself in this activity, almost in a sort of trance.
"No no, over there I think," she'd mumble to herself, tipping her head to the side before trying to shove a boulder from one position to another, careful to keep her toes from being crushed. No one quite knew why Osage occupied her time with such nonsensical activities, but no one really questioned the poor mad girl; they just left her to her own devices.
"Well, I think that's good for one day," she said to herself, wiping her muddy hands on the skirt of her dress as she stood back to admire her work. "That's nice. Now it looks much better here. Tomorrow I'll start on-" As if she'd been interrupted, she paused, eyes scanning the clearing. "Oh no! I've left the hammock at home! Now I have to go back and get it, or this was all for nothing!" Turning on her heel, she raced back through the forest, intent of fetching her hammock, and as she approached the twin square to cross over to her father's property, she rounded a corner a little too quickly, and crashed into someone going the opposite direction.
"Oh goodness...I'm sorry," she said, shaking her head and swiping the choppy bangs out of her eyes. "I'm usually not to preoccupied, but you see...my rocks are waiting for me." Of course this made total sense to Osage, but to the poor soul she'd knocked over, whoever it was, that probably sounded pretty crazy.
