PHOENIX KASTHA
Though he is only seventeen, it's easy to see that he is no boy. After taking care of his family by himself for four years, this District five boy had become a man to make his step-father proud.Day in and day out
Watch him scream, watch him shout
Through the silence,
Through the silence.
THE STRANGER WITHIN MY GATE,
Misfit, oh what a misfit. He is such a misfit. From his shaggy hair to his scuffed shoes, Phoenix is a misfit. His hair is brown and always messy, a style he kinda likes because of how easy it is to keep and how it actually works for him. Admittedly, his hair could do with a bit of a cut but he doesn't have the time or the care to go to an appointment, even if he bothered to arrange one. His eyes are such a dark brown they're almost black, in fact people have asked him if they actually are black. Most folks can never tell, and Phoenix's response is to make a witty remark about how he is some sort of mutt. Sometimes, he will use charcoal or ash to outline his eyes, as he had seen capitolites do. He liked how it made his eyes look darker, and yet stand out all the more vividly for it.Give him ears, give him lies,
Give some point to the cries
And the violence,
Oh the violence...
HE MAY BE TRUE OR KIND,
Standing at a height of 5'11", Phoenix appears somewhat uncoordinated because of the length of his arms and legs. Some has gone as far as to call him gangling, but he is somewhat more proportional than that. He just grew a little too fast for his brain to catch up with and almost constantly underestimates his height. His shoulders are somewhat broad, but not overly so, and his arms are semi-muscled from the small tasks he would get every so often, whether around the house or in the market area. He is decently sized, for District five, though he would be considered skinny in either the upper Districts or the Capitol. He doesn't have much fat on him, but it isn't as if he is highly muscled either. One could say he was fit, though it wasn't as if he trained with weapons like the Careers had all of their lives. His legs are semi-muscular like his arms, but slightly more-so as well because of the frequent trips he takes between home and the market. When he speaks there is a slight, but obvious, drawl to his voice, as if he's constantly bored or sarcastic. The drawl grows heavier when he actually is bored or being sarcastic.Hear him scream your name.

Get the best of him
BUT HE DOES NOT TALK MY TALK--
He is as much a misfit in his personality as in his appearance. Often people think that he doesn't take anything seriously because of how much he jokes about his situation. He is almost constantly making some witty remark about something he had seen, heard or experienced. However, he is not all dry humor and sunny days. Most of his joking attitude is put on, much like the charcoal eyeliner he often wears. He does it for his younger siblings, who he feels the need to protect from the harsh realities of the world. Perhaps it wouldn't be so strong of an instinct for him if his situation had been different and the responsibility that he held wasn't weighing down his shoulders.
Since he had taken over as the man of the house, he had done his best to always be cheerful for his younger siblings and his mother. Most of the act was his own personality, but more and more he had to force himself to be as jubilant as before the incident with his father, and then the death of his step-father. He normally was joking, and he normally tried to have as much fun as possible even as he did the simplest of tasks. Many people consider him odd because of his seeming 'happy-go-lucky' behavior. This city feels low
It gives the gleam and the glow
Of his diligence to their elegance.
I CANNOT FEEL HIS MIND.
When he was younger, he had always looked up to his father. That was until his father stormed out of the house and never came back. Phoenix had, from then on, thought of his father as a coward and a monster. He had resented the man his mother had taken as first her boyfriend, and then her second husband, but he had grown to respect and care for the man. It tore him deeply when he was killed in a rigging accident. After that, Phoenix had felt it was his responsibility to take care of his family as the new man of the house. He knew his mother wouldn't find another man after the tragedy, it had broken her further than his father leaving had.Just feel anger, feel pain.
Feel the sun and the rain
Just feel something.
Oh feel something.
I SEE THE FACE AND THE EYES AND THE MOUTH,
Phoenix was born into a happy family, living with just his mother and father in a decently sized house within a half-an-hour's walk of the nearest oil rig, and nearly an hour's walk from the nearest refinery. His father had taken long hours at the rig to earn enough money to support the little family, so Phoenix didn't see his father much. He grew to respect the man he saw so little of for his dedication to him and his mother. Little did he know that his father didn't actually work as long as he said he did, nor was he all that dedicated. His younger sister was born when he was four, and he had loved her as soon as he had seen her. His mother told him that he always used to sit by her crib during the day, acting like her body guard. For five years after that, the little family lived happily in the same house Phoenix had lived in all his life. It wasn't until he was almost ten that anything changed.
One day, he was playing with his little sister, rolling plastic toys or balls to her as she clapped and attempted to roll them back, usually ending up throwing them. He was about to roll his sister's favorite toy to her when he heard shouting. His father had come home after work, drunk and smelling like an odd soap. One look at his father sent Phoenix to picking up his sister, grabbing her toy and heading into his room, shutting the door. Sadly, his room wasn't that far from the kitchen, where the front door led to. He heard almost every word his parents had screamed at each other. His mother accused his father of cheating on her, and lying to her. She had yelled that he was a drunken idiot and that she was going to take her children far away from him. He had replied with almost unintelligible shouting, but Phoenix had made out enough to know that his dad did not like what his mother had said. Then there was a smash of breaking dishes and the slam of the front door. A silence fell over the household, only broken by his mother's weeping.Hear them scream your name.

BUT NOT THE SOUL BEHIND.
Phoenix had slowly convinced himself and his mother that his father wasn't worth the effort of missing and that they should move on. He had hoped his sister wouldn't remember much of the incident, if any of it, being that she was six at the time it had happened. A few months later, his mother had begun to date another man. Phoenix wasn't certain about him at first, but by the time his mother had gotten married to the man, he had come to like him. His step-father was more like his father than his biological father was, and he loved him dearly. He was overjoyed when he heard his mother was pregnant, excited about having another younger sibling. His younger brother was born when he was twelve and his sister was eight. Another year passed and Phoenix thought that everything would finally be alright. That was, until his step-father was torn away from them when the rigging he work on broke. He had been killed instantly, beheaded it had seemed, by one of the large chains they used to hold the drill sections. His mother had openly cried in front of him when they had heard, something he thought he'd never see.
They had attended the funeral, and Phoenix was asked to speak of his step-father on behalf of his family. After the burial, his mother had told him that she would never look for another husband, that she had given up on love. When she had gone to bed, Phoenix, at the mere age of thirteen, made a vow to always take care of his family. Even if it meant sacrificing himself to the Games to do so. Fortunately, it had not come to that point. Every member of his family had survived the next four years, even if it was a bitter, taxing experience. Now, Phoenix attended school and did jobs around District five in order to support his family. His siblings help out when they can. They throw the stones and bricks and bones.
"He didn't stand a chance", they said.
A little boy the world is over.
Ignorance is bliss.
