Shen "Phantom" Tangaroa
Silent as a shadow, Shen left the abandoned house. It wasn't truly abandoned, for he had taken up living there, but no one else knew of it, or cared enough about it to look around. It had served him very well in the last three years, and he had actually managed to obtain some furniture, of a sort. He turned and shut the front door, muffling the click of the latch as best he could. Turning back around, he made his way down the short path that lead to the edge of the property. As was his habit, he stuck to the shadows, moving with silent grace from dark patch to dark patch, his form easily disguised in the extended shadows of the night.
He looked up and smiled as he saw the moon, it was a little over half full. It had begun to wane, becoming smaller every night until it would be no longer visible. That was the time that Shen liked the most, for it offered more opportunities to travel without being seen. As he made his way towards the more populated area of the District, he avoided anyone he passed, no one even knew he had passed. His destination was a wild garden he had found a couple of weeks ago, while looking for food. He had seen many different species of plant there, but the one that had stood out and demanded his attention was a beautiful white an violet lily. Its petals were spread as large as his palm and it rose as high as the middle of his shin. Just the memory of the flower was enough to take his breath away.
It took him a few more minutes to reach the little garden, which was hidden behind two old houses. He was lucky to have stumbled on this spot before, because if he had tried to find it without ever being there before, he would have passed it many times. This meant that it was private and secluded, just the way he liked the world. It also meant that he would be able to relax and not have to worry about other people being about. Breathing a deep sigh, he kneeled beside the lily, careful not to crush any of the nearby plants. Gazing in complete fascination at the stunning flower, he lost himself in the details of each petal, leaf and filament. He spent a few more minutes taking in the striking anatomy of the lily before he began to speak gently, as if talking to the flower. "The blending of the violet streaks into the white is amazing, I haven't seen a flower with this exquisite of a pattern..." His words dropped off as he continued to analyze the flower, once more lost to the world as his mind was consumed by all thoughts of the lily.
Slowly he regained himself, but only enough that he found himself humming. He paused, then realized what song he was humming. Softly, he began to sing,
"Do you dream that the world will know your name?
So tell me your name
Do you care about all the little things
or anything at all?
I wanna feel, all the chemicals inside
I wanna feel
I wanna sunburn, just to know that I'm alive
To know I'm alive..."
His singing grew slightly louder as he continued, his confidence being somewhat boosted by the silence that surrounded him, silence that was only broken by his voice. Eventually, a small smile formed on his lips, a rare sight on his pale face. The singing released some of the stress he had accumulated and allowed him a way to release some emotion without it being obvious, to either himself or anyone who might happen to come along.
"You can tell me all your thoughts
About the stars that fill polluted skies
And show me where you run to
When no one's left to take your side
But don't tell me where the road ends
'Cause I just don't wanna know
No I don't wanna know..."
OOC: In case you wanted to know (more of less) what the lily looks like;
