Dodging expectation(Alexanderite 'Xander') {Open}

Xander departed his family's compound, wiping a bead of sweat off of his brow with his left hand. The last foot race had seen him neck and neck with his sister, Diamond. At last second, his brother Jasper had thrown a kick to his leg and knocked him out of the race. He bent to examine his leg, which felt steady enough now. Jasper had been in too much of a hurry to do much damage.
He could hear his father's booming voice shouting instructions to today's favored child, the winner. Xander wondered if it had been Jasper or Diamond. Why do I care? He reminded himself.
Three more years of this tedious exercise; and I'm free.
Xander ran a hand over his close cropped black hair; ensuring he hadn't gotten dirty in his brief tumble.
He had donned a blue vest over his bare chest, but he was still breathing heavily from exertion. He toyed with the idea of training more. As he considered, he glanced down the street of district 1 as though searching for a diversion of what was expected from him.
