amadeus shephard
goes by the name of cerberus
thirty three years old
lives in the capitol
appearanceA sense of importance seems to radiate from the man, even if he simply stands amongst a group, and it still appears that way despite his run down look. His nearly perfect posture was a defining feature for Amadeus Shephard when he cared so much about his appearance. Now his shoulders are hunched forward and he appears to be shorter than his actual height of 6'2''. His weight has been the one thing he hasn't let go of since the death of his wife and he still tries to keep in shape in order to not scare away his business partners. All 156 lbs of him is mostly made up of muscle, but he doesn't look to be muscular and bulky. Amadeus looks exhausted overall, which isn't too far off. Between the constant need for him to work and the depressed feelings that often keep him up, he rarely has the time to actually get the needed sleep. It certainly shows.
Bright green eyes watch everything carefully although nothing registers, only really being a blank stare. Bruised sockets surround Amadeus' eyes, giving him an almost sinister look that doesn't actually fit his personality. His nose is thin along the bridge, but it widens out around the base, taking up a proportional amount of space on his face. His top lip is thin and long, his bottom one just a bit thicker. They usually remain flat with no emotion and his teeth have rarely seen the light of day through a smile for a long time. His ears are a regular size, pressing back against his head and not bringing too much attention to them. His hair is a brown colour and it rests messily on his head. Sideburns go a bit down his face, turning into stubble all around his jaw and forming a beard and goatee. His eyebrows are curved up as if in surprise and they're bushy, matching his hair in colour.
His shoulders are broad and hunched forward, giving him a defeated look. They used to go far back with his chest pushed forward in confidence. His chest and stomach are flat and a light dusting of hair covers the upper part. Long arms come off of each side, ending in larger, rough hands. His fingers are thin and long, most of them appearing swollen around the middle knuckle and looking much larger than the rest of the finger. His ring still remains on his left hand and he never removes it, no matter what's going on. It's a reminder of the good times and he doesn't want to ever get rid of it because it's like getting rid of his wife. He still believes she's coming back. His legs are also long, most of his height consisting of these limbs. They're thick from the constant exercise and jogging, and they end in large feet with high arches. He's always needed special shoes to keep his feet supported in order to not have aches and pains.
Amadeus constantly dresses in classy dress clothes and suits in order to try to look presentable. Now, since his wife's death, he still appears dishevelled in them, with the collars often twisted and his button up hanging out instead of being tucked in. His shoes only consist of dark dress shoes that used to always have a shine. It was like his life. Everything used to be perfect. And now it's not. It's the complete opposite in his eyes. His dress shirts are coloured many different shades and his blazers and suit jackets are always black or grey. His favourite is a black button up with a dark black jacket, all being topped off with a red tie. Other ties hang in his closet but he never bothers tying them up, only letting them hang around his neck loosely or not tied up at all. His pants always match the jacket.
There are only a few marks on his body that makes it obvious to others that he is a Capitolite. The first is the eyeliner that surrounds his eyes, barely noticeable unless you're truly looking for it but still accentuating them. Lastly, he has a tattoo on the back of his right shoulder that he's always been proud of getting. It's a design of three wolf-like dogs gathered close together, appearing to come from the same body. Each one represents one of his brothers, both biologically and based off his relationships, that had passed away when he was young. One for the oldest biological brother, Charon, which appears as a dark brown dog with soft blue eyes, standing in the middle of the other two with an alpha look to him. The one to the left is pressed tightly against the middle one, looking afraid and nervous. It was made to represent Zagreus, his youngest brother who always seemed to be afraid of being with others. His green eyes are confident though, showing how much potential he truly had. Lastly, there's Recks, his best friend and practically a true sibling. The golden eyes of the dog are very prominent, seeming to truly be watching you as you gaze upon the art. Their bodies are detailed and it's drawn realistically.
personalityAmadeus always relies on his money to make sure that everything turns out the way he wants it to. He isn't cocky when it comes to the lot of wealth that he does have but he certainly understands that he has it a lot easier than many people. However, unlike other rich folks in the Capitol, he worked for his money and didn't just sit back as it came to him. His parents weren't royalty and therefore, he has had to bust his ass to get what he currently has. He would prefer to pay people off instead of having to get more physically confrontational and if it weren't for the riches he possesses, he would have absolutely no confidence in himself at all.
Having money and power and of course his sinister look, he can be quite intimidating. It helps him in a lot of situations because he doesn't have to deal with more people than he'd like to as they usually prefer to communicate with him indirectly. Why, he does not exactly understand. It's not just that he looks like he's a tough guy that has ulterior motives. No, not just that. To others, he seems like an ass hole. When he's seen by people that he hasn't yet opened up to, he only cares about the money and the business. Perhaps that's why he always seems ready to throw somebody under the bus to further his career. People assume he's evil because he's not like others. They assume that because he isn't commonly spending time with other people as much that he's the bad guy. And it bothers him when he's called the bad guy. However, it's all Amadeus knows now. Deep down inside though, he is a sweet guy who actually cares. If only people would see that he's the good guy and the people that they see as being amazing actually have far bigger faults and many more mistakes.
When he speaks, he never really gets to the point. That's how it's been since his wife died, at least. He's always been lost in his own world but returning to reality was simple if he had business involved. Being vague is just how he is, but it doesn't bother him. The thoughts that show up in his mind are often wondrous, if people could just understand them when he tried to explain. It's as if the connection between his mind and his mouth had been severed when his wife died and now he can only attempt to connect the two. He prefers to stay quiet unless he really has to speak and often spends time just by himself in order to avoid being forced to speak. It's not his favourite though because he does get lonely, sometimes being too lonely now that his wife is gone.
The loss of his wife has evidently made him extremely depressed. Most days, he does nothing but sit around because he doesn't want to even do anything else. To him, the only reason to live any more is his money. All of his friends are dead and he has nobody else to pass the money on to. Death has a sick way of following him and everybody he's started to care about has been taken away from his terribly. He expects to be the next one and it doesn't worry him one bit. In fact, he almost seems to have a death wish. There's nothing else to live for. Amadeus even keeps from bonding with people because he believes that he's cursed and he'll only end up being the reason for their death in the end.
He's quite a genius and has always been very logical. Analysing things is sort of a hobby for him and he will often spend hours on end just doing puzzle-like activities because it's the only thing he still enjoys doing. That's how he got all of his money in the first place. He's always excelled with numbers and with sciences and so he put that knowledge and skill to use when first trying to start his business. And that's what got him far. He started with investing the money he'd get from working a normal job into businesses until he made millions, eventually starting his own. For that, he'd fund different projects in order to become a partner on it and to get a certain percentage of the profit. Most of the time, he'd double his money. Even triple it. Possibly more. That's why he became so rich. He knew the numbers and he knew them well.
The only other thing that Amadeus has ever expressed interest in has been guns. He's sort of a gun connoisseur in a way, enjoying adding to his gun collection whenever he can. A room in his house is dedicated to different weapons that date back centuries ago and also some of the more modern day weapons. He's been able to shoot some before in his life and he loved the adrenaline rush that followed it.
Finally, Amadeus definitely has a thirst for adventure. He dreams of getting out into the world and having a meaning to his existence, doing whatever is needed. He has a strong desire to wander around and to explore the world around him. It's why he never thinks twice when asked to go on a business trip. He also has another reason for his thirst, which is to find his wife somewhere out there. She'd often go on business trips as well and be out for months on end, only coming back for a short while before leaving again. That's all Amadeus ever needed though, as he loved her dearly. Now, he wishes to find her out there, as well as finding himself. He suffers from wanderlust. It is definitely his hamartia, his fatal flaw.
historyAmadeus was born to Kronis Shephard and Rheay Cibelle, the second child amongst three. His older brother by three years, Charon, was always the golden child. He was the one that excelled the most and people believed that he'd be the most successful. He never even made it past the age of 18. His younger brother, Zagreus, was four years younger. He was much more nervous and he didn't like to put himself out in social occasions. His parents tried hard to get him out there but he never agreed with it. They couldn't try any more though. He died along with Charon. And both Kronis and Rheay followed. Amadeus was lucky to have survived the house fire that took the lives of both of his parents and brothers. He got out before it consumed their small home.
His childhood prior the accident was fairly simple. He'd do what most kids would do and never really stood out. Sure, he was smart and athletic enough to be watched by some of the sports captains at his small school near their home, but he wasn't great enough to be noticed by everybody around him. He was always hanging back in the shadow of Charon and when he wasn't around to show off, Zagreus would be around being taught how to react properly. Being the middle child meant that Amadeus got ignored more or less. And he didn't really mind it. He'd sit in his room, simply imagining the things he'd see in his life. With a sketching set he received one birthday, he'd draw all over his walls in order to bring his dreams to life. He was decent enough at drawing that his room soon became nearly a work of art. It was terrible for him to see it burn down.
When they died, he moved in with his aunt and uncle. Poshadon and Heraline were all Amadeus had for a year or two. That's as long as he stayed with them though as they too died in a tragic accident. It was then that Amadeus began to believe he was cursed. He had no more family left though. And that brought Amadeus to the large orphanage else. It felt so empty there and nobody ever wanted to go near him when he decided to share his knowledge on the "curse" he believed he had. Soon enough, all the other kids were getting adopted and he sat around with nobody expressing interest him. People thought he had issues because of the deaths of all those he loved. Nobody wanted somebody with that much baggage. And so, he never had parents after that.
And then he started university. That's where he met the one friend who he couldn't imagine living without. Recks was just a normal kid with normal parents and normal grades. He wasn't anything special and he certainly wasn't afraid of Amadeus and his apparent curse. He didn't care if death followed his new friend everywhere. And they sort of became inseparable. Amadeus was glad to have somebody he could rely on that wouldn't just drop dead at any moment. And when their year anniversary came by and Recks was still living, he thought he could actually live a happy life now with people that he loved and that loved him without them dying in a fire or something. But sure enough, he couldn't have that kind of happiness. Amadeus was followed by death. And it soon claimed his best friend through a terrible disease.
He then focused all of his attention on success. If he couldn't have friends and love, he might as well have something else to distract himself with. And that's when he began to invest in different businesses and funding projects. He soon found himself wealthier than he ever imagined within a year. His whole life was centred around being successful and increasing the money he had available to them. That was all he could do without ruining somebody's life and killing them indirectly. Eventually, he forgot all about the curse and moved on, accepting that the deaths of everybody in his life were just coincidences. And then he met her. Mirana came out of the blue, really. He didn't expect to fall so quickly and deeply for the girl. And soon enough, they were married. It was like a romantic story that was oh so cliche. But neither of them cared. They loved each other dearly.
They tried once for a baby. Only once. She was gone on her final business before they could try again. The news came back almost a month after she passed, brought to Amadeus by a young man in a solemn suit. He broke down, to say the least. First, he couldn't believe it at all. He just laughed and tried to call her on their expensive phones. But it slowly sunk in that she was actually gone. Then came the breaking of things and the crying and break downs. Amadeus was alone. Everybody he ever got close to would just die and he was tired of it. And so he went back to focusing on business while being in his depressive state. He just wanted to get out in the world and to experience things to take his mind off of his wife. But he'd never forget her.
And now, he's just a lost soul. He doesn't use his first name any more. Every time somebody spoke the name, he'd remember his wife speaking those words. It's only been a month since he received the news and he still misses her deeply. His new name was inspired by the tattoo on his back. Cerberus, was what an elderly man called it. The three headed dog. And to him, he was the three headed dog. Money, brains and looks. He was constantly complimented on each of them. And yet, he was alone and he was broken. He'd always be broken. And that's why he funded The Prometheus Conundrum. It gave him a chance to get away. A chance to live a new life. He could let go of the old one, that is. If he could avoid the death that followed him.
If. And if was never a good word.
