Ember Rosaline Collin [District 12]

Ember is an average height girl from the Seam. Unlike most of the seam girls her hair is a mix between blonde and brown and falls passed her upper arms. Her father had blonde hair and her mother had brown hair, when she was born it was blonde but as she grew up it darkened to it's dishwater blonde. She doesn't care much for the color, just it's length. Her parents always said she looked beautiful with her hair long. She does not have the blue gray eyes of the kids in the Seam, her eyes are actually a brown, often time giving of the image of glowing embers if in the right light. Her skin is an olive color due to her always being out and freckles sprinkled on her arms and a few on her cheeks.

She isn't very tall. 5'3'' at the most, her weight varies due to her and her siblings living in the poorest district and having to struggle for food. Seeing all the starvation going on around her she refuses to die that way. But her weight mainly stays around 112 to 115lbs. Her BMI is 20.4, she is just at that normal weight limits thanks to her older brother making sure she is fed. She isn't scrawny in the least. Ember being her brother's shadow from when they were little learned a few things from him like climbing and hunting. She's fast on her feet.

Ember has a scar on the left side under her ear due to a hunting accident with her older brother. They tried hunting in the forest to provide food for themselves and their siblings. It was her first time hunting and she fell from a tree, her weapon had scraped her along her left side. She also has a scar on her knee from when she fell. Ember also has a scar on her head from falling in the woods it makes it difficult to part her hair evenly. She had a gash from hitting a branch on the way down. Her right eyebrow is scarred as well from fighting with one of the other District Twelve kids. She has a burn mark on her thumb and index finger of her left hand from when she had to learn to cook at an young age. Ember has a small birthmark on the side of her neck, it almost looks as if she was burned. She tends to cover it with her hair. Small scars litter her arms from hunting with her brother.

She prefers something comfortable, something she can move around in when it comes to clothing. Her older brothers tried to dress her very much like a girl and make her to be a princess in every aspect. Her brothers to the best of their knowledge did her hair. Ember has a favorite pair of boots her brother somehow found in the Hob. They were her birthday gift when she turned fifteen. She also carries around a small bracelet her older sister had made her the year she was reaped. It is weaved out of bark and old chains from the Hob they scrounged up. (her sister died that year in the Games.)

To some around the district, Ember is just the girl who lost her sister in the games and lost her parents to starvation or a mining accident. But to those who know her, she is courageous. She is a flame in a dark place because she refuses to give up on life. Unlike most who let the hunger take them she fights along side her siblings to live. She has a fire many seem to be drawn to whether its cuirosity about her or if it something much different.

Ember can be a sarcastic girl with a bit of bite due to what she has been through. The fact that she has lost both her parents and her older sister has made her a tough girl to get close to. Those who are close to her are those she loves dearly. There are times she is withdrawn because of what her family has gone through and sadness tends to seep in, but she pulls herself out by keeping busy; hunting with her brother and making sure the others get their school work done.

Ember is a smart girl, resourceful and quick on her feet. But that doesn't mean she always knows what to do in a situation. Her knowledge of plants is vast, but her knowledge on injuries isn't too good. Her brother usually helps her with that. She does strive to learn everything she can. Soaking up knowledge means a lot to her because if she were to ever be reaped it would help her in the arena. When she doesn't get the hang of something she'll get angry and keep going until she gets whatever is was correct. Her skill with words is something her brother Cloud continues to teach her.

When she becomes close with people it's forever. Even if they fight she will always be there, or course struggling along the way with her emotions. She isn't one to forgive easily but those who are close to her are an acception. She has a tendency to make excuses for those who she loves if they do something to hurt her or others. The girl with eyes of fire is an observant girl and knows how to read people around her to the best of a human being's abilities. Although she has a tough skin, the girl a kind soul and wants nothing more than to live a life without fear and starving and death. She fears her family; 2 older brothers and 3 younger brothers, will starve. She fears one day she'll lose what's left of her family to the entertainment of the capitol like she lost her older sister. She also fears being alone with nothing but her thoughts. Thoughts of a world without those she loves.

Ember Rosaline Collins was born in District Twelve to Klause Collins and Ebony Spruce - Collins. She was the fourth child in the family the three oldest being Fauna Collins, Cloud Collins, Hemlock Collins. At an early age because of where she was from, her family was already in a bad position. They thought she wouldn't survive as a baby because of the low amount of food in the home. but even then she was a fighter. Cloud and Fauna absolutely loved her. Hemlock was only a few years older than Ember at the time and didn't understand nor did her care.

At the age of five Ember watched as her twin brothers were born; Canis and Kole. They were her favorite people in the world. She would sing to them any and every song she knew from her mother and father. Cloud even pitched in. Over the next years one more child was added, and even though Ember was starting to see the world around her for what it was, thought it was a bad idea, she fell in love with the little brother, Ash. She thinking it was a bad idea was right because after having Ash her mother came down with infection and passed from it. Ember took it upon herself to care for the baby. It was that year, (Ember was ten years old) when her sister Fauna was reaped. It killed her family to know that they'd possibly be losing their sister. As the boys and her watched Fauna through the games, Ember wailed. She watched her sister die a brutal death at the hands of someone from another district. One of the Careers as they called them. It was during the finals of the games that the mining accident happened. Her father never came home. It was as if someone wanted her to suffer. And suffer they did.

Through the suffering though Ember ended up developing a crush on a boy in town. He had often played with her when they were younger and on occassion the boy would share his food with her without his parents knowledge. He had also been there when she needed someone to cry to about her sister and her father. When their father died Cloud was 19 years old and able to be guardian of the rest of the family. Cloud never approved of the boy Ember became friends with and liked, but was grateful for his friendship to her and his kindness because he knew his sister needed someone other than himself and hemlock and the boys.

As the years passed she lived in fear that Hemlock would be reaped, that she would be reaped and that when the time came so would her younger siblings. It made her fearful of ever wanting to have kids. It made her dream of days without the games. It made her wish for something different. Ever since Fauna's publicly horrify death, Cloud made it his goal as did Hemlock to include their sister in on their hunting. They knew it was illegal but Cloud was good with words and getting out of situations. So she learned to hunt. It helped with providing food and making a little bit of money to purchase what they needed. When she was twelve unfortunately they had a bad streak with hunting and what they did catch it wasn't enough so Ember did what she thought was best and applied for tessera. It was the only way. Once in a while Hemlock would as well apply for tessera.

Every Reaping that passed almost made her have a heart attck. Her first Reaping was something she would never forget. She had seen tears and fear and horror plastered on the people's faces. Her heart stopped when the brother of the boy she cared for was called. had bit her lip, it was all she could do from yelling out in anger and sadness. Everyday she sat with her friend and watched as one by one the tributes of that year were killed. His brother never survived the Bloodbath.

When she turned fifteen Ember had gotten a pair of hunting boots from her brother Hemlock. He had traded a deer to get things they needed and found them in the Hob. It was the best birthday gift ever. That was the year that she saw another tribute from their district die. Every year it angered her and saddened her because it always reminded her of Fauna. Fauna would made her a bracelet and gave it to her before they took her saying she'd be back. Fauna who looked so beautfil yet so scared in the arena. The sister she watched die at the hands of Career tributes.
