Avan Fox, District 5

Avan is 5’5” tall and weighs around 50 kilos. She is scrawny and skinny, and lacks in feminine curves, but has a striking face, which is fox-like like many of the residents of District 5. She has spiky red-brown hair that is layered and is medium-length, about half-way between her shoulders and waist. She has wide amber eyes with very black lashes, despite her reddish hair. She is quite pale, with a light spray of freckles across her nose which she obsessively covers up with homemade cosmetics and ointment. Her height and weight mean she is physically weak, and cannot handle most weapons, like swords, maces and axes. She has an athletic-looking build, with a toned stomach and arms and a slim body, but this is only from a diet of healthy food and a long walk to the nearest town everyday, as well as helping with fixing things around the village, but is lacking in brute strength and cannot move heavy items or handle a hand-to-hand fight well.
She has a metal stud in her nose- it is from a broken piece of silver jewelery that she found, and two piercings in each ear, though she can never afford any earrings apart from one pair bent metal studs bought in the black market. She has a nick in one ear from a knife fight over some stolen goods from when she was 14, and has very scarred feet from rarely wearing shoes.

She is normally shifty and suspicious looking, and skittish to sudden noises or movement. She is lithe and graceful in the way she walks, which gives her an extremely fox-like appearence, and she prefers to go barefoot than wear shoes, which got her the nickname 'Foxfoot' by her friends at school, as she can move as silent as a fox and can sneak up on people. This means that her feet are rock hard, and she does not get hurt easily on rocky ground. She wears a fox-tooth necklace, a heirloom from her grandmother. Avan is quite attractive to the boys in her district, because of her looks and love of flirting, and has a boyfriend named Kestrel. She wears dark eyeliner to enhance her appearance, usually wars tight, dark, ninja-style clothing, and her most prized item of clothing is a fox-fur belt that used to belong to her father. One of her front teeth is chipped into a fang shape from when she fell out of a tree when she was little, and so she barely ever smiles with her teeth, and gets embarassed if people comment on it. She has an almost boyish body, with almost no hips and only just manages to fit a size A bra- because of the poverty of her district, she cannot afford much food and can look a little skeletal.

Avan is sly, cunning, elusive, quick-witted, calculating and clever, just like the fox that represents her. She is instinctive, strong willed, deceptive, and is adept and stealing a little food and pickpocketing. She is quiet and logical, and prefers to run than to fight. She doesn't show much emotion on the outside, but can be angered easily. She has keen senses and can easily fit into small hiding places, but is slightly claustrophobic and has a fear of heights, so she cannot hide for very long. She refuses to trust or rely on people she does not know, and does not trust anyone but her brother with her secrets.
She is envious of the people in districts 1 & 2 & 3, and wishes she could live there, as they have money and can afford electricity, luxury and have well paid jobs. She is mentally strong and can easily tackle most situations, but her physical weakness annoys her. People tend to be wary of her as she is often manipulative and can bend rules to get her way. She is secretly quite stuck-up, and believes that she is better, faster and clever than anyone else, even though she is seen as cold and untrustworthy to most adults. She is a skilled liar, and her popularity is somewhat based on her ability to manipulate and blackmail, as well as her good looks.

Some of her skills are that she can hide easily, she is fast learner, logical thinker, a skilled thief and fast runner. She can work with technology and electricity as well as a basic knowlegde of nature. She is a talented artist, but did not pursue a career in this as her family is too poor to afford paper, let alone canvases and easels, and there is not much market for art in District 5. She has quick, precise hands, and can throw a spear or knife accurately. Howver, she is physically weak, and prefers to run and hide than to join a fight. She is small and cannot take a physical fight well, and can be cowardly, as she wants to preserve her life at all costs, no matter what is at stake. She cannot wield swords or axes well, as she finds them too heavy, and often takes too many risks, which although often lead to her benefit, can sometimes get her into serious trouble.

She has some basic knowledge of using a knife from her brother Jordan, who used to gather berries and trap rabbits on the wastelands between the factories, before security fences were places there and the peacekeepers got stricter. She stores information for later use, and often scores good grades, although she has a tendency to cheat on tests at school. She gets angry if people say bad things about her and put a mark on her flawless perception of herself, and is vain and wants to look her best, no matter what the situation. She is rarely happy and smiley, but is warm towards her friends, family and people she admires. She has a sarcastic and cynical attitude mostly, which makes some situations more amusing, but makes most adults disapprove of her. She loves to flirt with boys, which irritates her boyfriend, and has the ability to look good almost all the time, which makes many girls secretly envious of her. She wants to be free of the Capitol, and wants a life of adventure, as a wanderer or a hunter, outside the rules of the district.

Avan had a poor upbringing in District 5, taking care of making a basic living and gathering food for the family and friends. She lived on an abandoned wilderness far off from other houses, between two refineries, so she could trap some animals for her starving family without ventuing outside the walls of the district, which technically made it legal, so depite her mainly polluted and urbaized district, she has a relatively good knowledge of nature and survival. However, security was boosted, so since she was 13 she has had to take on odd-jobs, as well as stealing from the more wealthy citizens of 5. She enjoys walking through the small woods next to her house and swimming in the one river in 5. At a young age, her father was made an Avox and taken to the capitol for poaching outside the fence and, more recently, her mother developed intense arthritis so that she could barely move, so she has to stay in bed most of the day, walks with a cane and barely ventures out of the house. Her mother cannot work and Avan and Jordan are too young to work in most places- Avan is 15 and Jordan is 17, so they make money by selling scraps, food and, occasionally, homemade weapons. Mostly, they steal valuable goods from the rich area, which makes them highly untrusted.

She attends the local high school, and is an A-A* grade student, who achieved her results through a mixture of intelligence and cunning cheating. Her brother Jordan was very rebellious and attended school until he was 15, and often planned uprisings, but never gained enough weapons or support to go through with them. Once, when he heard a peacekeeper made fun of the poor workers coming back from work about how worthless theit lives were, he slashed him with his knife out of fury, and was almost beaten to death.

She grew to greatly admire one of the previous victors of the hunger games, who was well known for her intelligence and sucessful job inside the local power plant, and often tried to mimic her skills, and the way she walked and acted, as well as learning basic tactical skills and strategy off her. She hates the Games, and refuses to watch or celebrate them, calling them a waste of human life for no reason. She could never bring herself to kill someone in cold blood.

She is always said to act more fox-like than human, from her sly attitude to her red hair and amber eyes, to the way she walked, making the name 'Fox' suit her more and more.
Nobody really knew her race or origins, apart from that, years ago, her great-grandmother had wandered out of the forests around 5 and settled at the edge of the district, in a secluded village where the peacekeepers wouldn't notice a new arrival. She did not mention where she was from, but she was probably a runaway who did not want to reveal her past, in case she was turned into an Avox. She claims Tessera for herself, her mother, and her baby sister Vulpa. Her brother also claims tessera for himself, and their mother, as without proper jobs, they cannot afford much food or fuel. However, she resents having to do this, as she has a larger chance of being reaped, and she does not want to die in the Games.
Avan knows that she will never volunteer for the games, no matter what, and would rather die than participate.
