Paisley walked through the town square, taking in the sunlight and cool air that was blowing softly around her head and making her feel like swirling around and around. She was glad the games were finally over. She could never watch them and therefore she could never go to the town square while they were going on. And that SUCKED because she loved the town square. All the sounds and things to buy and all the life around her. She loved it. If she did have to go during the games, she had to keep her eyes off the huge T.V. screens all around the square and hum a loud tune to herself to block out the noise. Both these things made her look like a huge imbecile.
She hated the Hunger Games but she hated the Capitol even more for making the Hunger Games happen. She hated the Capitol more than almost anything. The Capitol starved them, humiliated them, and forced them to kill each other off and that was just torturous. She shook her head, as if trying to clear those unpleasant thoughts from her mind, and kept walking. She had to trade some stuff. Her family of three needed eggs, fresh water, lettuce, and bread. And perhaps some meat if someone would take the shabby sweater she had brought along and give them some, but that was unlikely. To trade she had the shabby sweater, a warm winter coat, rather worn down slippers, and a few different kinds of cloth with thousands of different patterns. She headed off to a booth to buy the stuff they needed. She wished they could her favorite fruit, blueberries, but that was very unlikely.
Paisley had gotten all the stuff they needed. She had even gotten a few chunks of rabbit! But, sadly, no blueberries. She was reveling in her smart trades, when she plowed straight into a boy and fell right on her butt. When she got her breath back, she saw he was carrying a bunch of stuff. Including expensive, fresh blueberries. Dazed, she staggered to her feet and said to him, "Oh my god. I'm so sorry! I really didn't mean to-" She stopped short when she saw his face.
The first thing she noticed about him was that he looked tired. Worn out and tired, but extremely handsome and tough. He reminded her slightly of her father, but the boy looked much, much younger. He was wearing the inexpensive looking, nonchalant clothes of a man that had much more important things to worry about than how he dressed. Yet the clothes he wore still looked nice on him. He probably had a family, considering how many groceries he had. She was stunned and embarrassed when she realized the first words to come to her mind were love at first sight. But...but that was what it seemed like. She smiled shyly at him and said, "Oh god, I made you drop all your stuff. I'm such a clutz." She then smiled sheepishly and said, "I could give you something to make up for it if you like though..." But when she realized he still had no idea who had so rudely plowed into him and made him drop all his groceries, she held out a hand for him to shake and said, "I'm Paisley. Paisley Paperman, the most idiotic girl in districy 8." She laughed embarrassedly and waited to see if he might shake.
