The moon gleams in the sky still while the sun is about to rise. It is barely 5 A.M and Valentina prepares for her daily jog. She puts on a tight fitting pair of yoga pants that are black with a red tank top and white gym shoes. She leaves the house quiet as a mouse so that no one notices. She starts to jog, running makes her feel one with herself, finally at peace. When she runs, she runs because she feels free, not only that it helps her train for the possiblity of being in the hunger games.
She runs about a mile and stops for a brief moment to rest. She is breathing fast yet feels calm. At this time in the morning she usually doesn't see too many runners, but the occasional few doesn't surprise her. Her biggest competitor is herself, with her second competitor is her sister. Her sister always seemed to be better than her, stronger, faster, meaner, tougher, and she believed prettier. Yet she didn't let this get to her.
More than anything, Valentina wanted to be in the hunger games, wanted to make her district proud, yet she had the fear that she wasn't good enough, and the fact of the matter that the possibility of being brutally murdered during the games, scared her, though she didn't let this show. She kept her feelings and fears to herself, never wanted to seem weak, never was close enough to anyone to open up fully. She longed for someone she could tell everything to, she had her friends, was the life of the party, but didn't have a best friend, or better yet a boyfriend.
When Valentina thought of love, she felt weak at th fact of opening up to someone, though a part of her wanted to experience this feeling. She thought that any romance would be hopeless for her, since she was rarely told she was beautiful. Sh had kissed guys before a party games, but never had a serious boyfriend. She had never really thought much of it as it rarely crossed her mind. This was one of those rare moments where she thought about it.
Her break was over and she retied her hair into a simple ponytail. She got ready to jog again when she saw someone in the distance. She thought nothing of it, and continued to run. She started to daydream about the games, and love, and her family, and her own self, and then. Crash! She slammed face to face into something, someone. She felt her face "Ouch," she said to herself. She she smiled her smile with a small gap in between her two front teeth and said. " Hey, I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention, are you alright?"
