Ali knew the day was going to be horrible as soon as she opened her eyes and saw her digital clock. It was 9:00 A.M. On Mondays, school started at 8:00 A.M. She was an hour late.
However, it was extremely unlike Ali freak out about something like school, and so Ali did not scramble out of her bed, tear a comb through her hair and hurry off to school like a good girl. Instead, she yawned and lazily climbed out of bed, went to her closet and threw on black bra, a black, tight-ish fitting t-shirt, and black skinny jeans. She wouldn't have even bothered with shoes, but the ground had long been frozen from snow and she was not going to walk around barefoot on frozen ground. So she slipped on her black ballet flats with black, skin tight socks and pulled back her hair into a ponytail using a dark red ribbon.
She opened her door and ran into the bathroom, washed her face, and then lightly and nearly soundlessly hopped down the stairs.
She checked the kitchen. No one seemed to be there so she dashed to the coat closet, snatching up a thin, purplish/red sweatshirt and ran threw the door, slamming it loudly behind her.
Ali had absolutely no intention of going to school. No way. Ali often skipped classes and skipping a day would be nothing new to her.
After about ten minutes of walking she arrived at The Town Square. She hadn't been there for quite awhile and she didn't have a TV at her house so at the moment she had no idea what was going on in the games. When she glanced up at the huge TV and saw that there were only two people left alive, she was extremely shocked. Especially because the two tributes left were from District three and District ten, two very poor districts. She watched intently as the two kids fought each other, cutting and stabbing angrily at each other, both really wanting to win, both filled to the brim with emotions. Ali's photographic mind sunk in every little detail.
Ali was all for blood and death and all that jazz, but she thought the Hunger Games was slightly ridiculous. President Snow made two kids from each districts fight to the death (that was for punishment, Ali got that part) but then they paid the winner a million bucks and a great home for winning. To Ali, that was just wasteful. Since Ali felt no mercy or compassion, it made no sense to Ali that the victor would be rewarded for surviving through a punishment. What was the point of that? It confused Ali. She muttered rather loudly, "The Hunger Games; the most pointless punishment known to man."
"Hey!" She heard a voice behind her yell. She spun around quickly. The voice stemmed from a boy of about 13. He had blonde hair and looked really rich. "What did you just say?" He growled through clenched teeth.
Ali raised an eyebrow and said, "I said, The Hunger Games; the most pointless punishment known to man. You seriously didn't hear me from five feet away? Wow, you must be deaf."
The kid's face got red from anger and embarrasment and he shouted, "And you must be insane if you think I won't slice your throat if you insult the Capitol or me!" He took a step closer and his fists clenched.
This time it was Ali who got angry. That boy could get her in deep trouble if he said she insulted the Capitol and furthermore, she had done no such thing, only slightly insulted the Games. She growled and started to say, "I would shut up if I were you. I didn't insult the Capitol, I just-" But she was cut off by the boy.
"Don't you dare tell ME to shut up! And you did insult them by saying anything against the Games, you b****!"
It was then that Ali blew up. Who did this boy think he was?! Ali had done nothing to him and he being a huge jerk. And what was worse was that he could get her into huge trouble which would be bad considering her record. She ran up to him, grabbed his shirt collar and slammed him into a brick wall behind him, yelling, "I didn't do anything wrong! And if you don't want a fist in the face, you better shut up and stop calling me a bitch, a******!" Ali knew she really shouldn't have, but she couldn't stop herself, and she kneed him hard in his balls.
He screamed and recoiled as Ali dropped him on the ground. She couldn't stop herself from smirking. Ali loved power and hated being vulnerable. She smirked down at him and kicked him in his stomach, whispering, "Don't you ever blame me for something I didn't do again."
She was so immersed in the boy's pain and the rush she was getting that she didn't notice the crowd that had gathered.
