Zanita Luzell
~I've been exiled, persucuted
Left alone with no defense
When I think of what that brute did
I get a little tense
Left alone with no defense
When I think of what that brute did
I get a little tense
Some might say it's the height that makes Zanita so imposing, but most will tell you that it's the eyes. Sure, she may tower over other girls but she's not match against a well nourished male. The eyes, however, tell a different story. They are sharp, and catch everything that crosses into view- and somethings that don't. Actually, everything about Zanita is sharp. The angle of her nose, her jaw and her cheekbones are all well defined. Lips, usually pressed into a firm line, hide a row of slightly yellowed teeth neglected by her years on the streets.
Her hair is a wild mane that can rarely be tamed. Sometimes, frustrated by the in conceive of long hair, Zanita will just cut off parts so that it stays out of her face. In truth, it only makes her appearance more wild. Yet, somehow, it works. The kind of uncontrolled, wild beauty someone can have. Not that looks are Zanita's top priority, but sometimes it can come in handy. Of course, if that approach fails she keeps her fingernails long just in case that can be her only weapon.
Along with her slightly above average height, Zanita is rather thin and bony. Her body long and lean and moves with a slow grace that comes with sneaking around the District past curfew every night. Plus, ever since being banished Zanita's body has grown even more wild and neglected. Malnourished, with large wild eyes that catch on everything. Wide brown orbs, with hard brown skin and wiry brown hair. So silent are her footsteps at times that, if you aren't careful, you may find Zanita behind you ready to pounce.
~Now the past I've tried forgetting
And my foes I could forgive
Trouble is I knows it's petty
But I hate to let them live
And my foes I could forgive
Trouble is I knows it's petty
But I hate to let them live
She is determined to end up on top, striving to get back up on the pedestal she's been thrown off time and time again. Already having a tough outer coating from her time as an orphan before discovering the mansion, she grew even more course during her time there. Everyone was just too... happy and content with their pitiful lives. Zanita was hungry- starving for power. At least when the girl says she'll do something, she does it. Zanita sure did try to make a grab for control but was knocked aside all too quickly. It's always been a thorn in her side, this shame at being so easily overthrown. So, she vowed to never let that happen again. Yet it did. We'll talk more about that later, though.
Zanita has always been conniving and although her schemes aren't exactly well thought out at times, she still meets her goals... at least part of the time. As hard as she tries, Zanita does end up failing more times than she'd like to admit, however she does not let anyone know that. The way she works the people she does still control- it make sit seem as if she planned it all out like this. Of course, that brute was going to come in and take charge of her tribe of outcasts- but only because she let him. Oh, Zanita would get that bastard back one day and it would taste so sweet.
Another thing about Zanita is that the people who are loyal to her, she is fiercely protective of, most of all her "brother"- but more on him later. There are a few other street wanderers under Zanita's protection, but most of them are under another's control. Zanita is not kind to traitors, in fact many people, Mansion orphans and streets ones too can attest to this. You have one chance to earn her trust- and it isn't as easy as you might think- and once you betray it you're done. Gone. Bye. Be lucky you're still alive.
~The melody of angry growls
A counterpoint of painful howls
A symphony of death, oh my!
That's my lullaby
A counterpoint of painful howls
A symphony of death, oh my!
That's my lullaby
There was a a time when Zanita Luzell was merely a scared child, her mother was out of work when the hunting areas were closed down and her skills "not needed" at the new factories. Unable to pay for anything, the single mother sent her young daughter off to school and when Zanita came home she was gone. Just gone. Over the years, the girl has thought up elaborate ways her mother left- running off to the woods and living with runaways, but surely she would have taken Zanita with her? Perhaps, she killed herself- but where was her body? Maybe the Peacekeepers took her in, but for what crime? Being poor? It's something that has always haunted Zanita, and taught her a powerful lesson- never trust anyone. Not even the person who created you.
There was also a time when Zanita lived in the Orphan's Mansion. It had seemed like a haven to her, a soft place to rest for a young girl who had already lived a hard enough life for two lifetimes. She came with her young brother, Kovu. Now he was not really her brother- no blood relation at all. She had met him one day on the streets (when she much younger, mind you, and still had a gentle childlike nature) and took him under her wing. It is quite obvious they are not related- no resemblance at all- but no one would dare tell Zanita that to her face. Well, they moved into the abandoned mansion and lived with all the other orphans of District Nine which called themselves a Pride. Like the big cat mutts that show up in Games from time to time. They were just like a big, happy family. Zanita did not click so easily into these relationships.
She could easily see the hierarchy in this "pride." They had a clear leader, his part of the "family" and they always got the best treatment while Zanita and Kovu were pushed aside. It was when Zanita tried to take control of the mansion that she was banished, and Kovu along with her. You would have exiled her too, after all she tried to kill their leader in the dead of night. Her assassination plot was foiled by the others and she was immediately evicted from the mansion. Furious and refusing to back down she formed her own little pride of other exiled children- some from the mansion, others from around the district. One day she would take her army to the steps of that ratty old shack and tear it completely to the ground leaving nothing but ashes and bones in her wake.
Of course that was before Sebastian came along. The cunning boy who had waltz right into their encampment and appointed himself as their true leader. Well, maybe that was an exaggeration. It may not have happened quite so fast, but Sebastian's rule was like wild fire. He took over every single person in the out cast pride, that is, except Zanita. She still holds enough power among the underlings to be toe to toe with Sebastian but she does not know how long she can hold up this act. He was also banished from the Goodie goodie pride for a plotted assassination- they probably got a little jumpy after Zanita's midnight visit. He is just as ambitious as Zanita and they continue their little power play over the rebellious children of District Nine. One night, while the rain is pounding on the little camp so hard that you would not be able to hear a truck driving through, she may sneak up on him while he sleeps. Maybe then Zanita can finally secure her power like she was unable to years ago.
~Payback time is nearing
And then our flag will fly
Against a blood-red sky
That's my lullaby!
And then our flag will fly
Against a blood-red sky
That's my lullaby!
